He was a 1935 graduate of Rochester High School. He attended Castle Heights Military Academy, Lebanon, Tenn., and graduated from Manchester College. On Jan. 22, 1948 in Rensselaer, he married Mildred M. COURTRIGHT, who survives. He was owner-operator of Hotel Rensselaer from 1946-1948. He was a former postmaster of Rensselaer and a previous owner of McMahan Furniture in Rensselaer. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church at Rensselaer; and a member, officer or past-officer of the various Masonic orders, and a member and former officer of the Rensselaer, district and state VFW posts. Mr. McMahan was a radarman in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Surviving with the wife are a son, James [McMAHAN], Logansport, and a sister, Mrs. W. J. DELANY, Michigan City. A daughter and a brother preceded in death.3 |

Mrs. Delaney attended DePauw University. She was a national member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, receiving her 75-year pin several years ago. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Michigan City and a member of PEO. She was an avid reader and she was a bridge player, knitter and sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching Indiana University basketball and the Chicago Bulls. He was active in Grace United Methodist Church and was a past master of the Masonic Lodge. He received an associate’s degree in technology from Indiana University-Kokomo. He was a 1967-74 Vietnam veteran. He was a master sergeant in the Air Force Reserves at Grissom Air Force Base, where he was a vehicle operations and Maintenance superintendent of the 434 Wing. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Brenda and Jill [CHRISTMAN], at home; a son, Dan [CHRISTMAN], at home; his mother, Elsie CHRISTMAN, Rochester; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Patricia) LIGHT, Scottsdale, Ariz; a brother, Phillip [CHRISTMAN], Safford, Ariz; three nieces and two nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack HARTMAN officiating. Burial will be in a Rochester cemetery following cremation. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Zimmerman Family Funeral Home, Rochester, where there will be Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society.2 |

BURKETT, 64, Buckeye, Ariz., formerly of Talma, died at 11:25 a.m. on Tuesday at Hospice Family Care, Sun City, Ariz. He was born in Rochester to Norman and Helen MILLER BURKETT and married Shirley ADAMS in 1953. He owned and operated Burkett’s Store in Talma for 16 years and was a retired postal carrier from the Rochester Post Office, where he worked for 25 years. He was a member of the Riverview Community Church, Talma, the Newcastle Lion’s Club, the American Legion and VFW, Rochester. He was a Trustee for Newcastle Township for four years and a Tippecanoe Valley School Board Member for four years. He was a retired United States Marine Corps Warrant Officer and Korean War veteran. Preceding him in death are his father, Norman BURKETT, and one brother, Bill BURKETT. Surviving are his wife, Shirley J. BURKETT; three daughters, Sharon LINDENLAUB, Litchfield Park, Ariz., Lisa GOODMAN, Rochester, Lee Ann McDONALD, Clermont, Fla; four granddaughters and two grandsons; mother, Helen BURKETT, Palmyra, N.Y; one sister, Marcia ROBBINS, Palmyra, N.Y; two brothers, Dick BURKETT and his wife Belva, Plainfield, and Tom BURKETT, Burlington, Wis. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Riverview Community Church, Talma, with the Rev. Rodney RUBERG officiating. Burial will be at the Athens Cemetery. The American Legion and VFW will conduct graveside rites. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Foster & Good Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until services Saturday at Riverview Community Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care in Sun Valley, Ariz.1 |
