Obit* | George Frank's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 29 October 1949: George Frank ROWE, 90, a pioneer citizen of the Athens community, passed away at 9:33 p.m., Friday at Woodlawn hospital, where during the forepart of the week he underwent a major operation. The retired farmer had been bedfast for the past seven weeks. Mr. Rowe, who resided on his farm two miles south of Athens, had a host of friends throughout Fulton county. He was born in Fulton county, Dec. 6, 1858, on the farm which he resided throughout his life. His parents were Frederick and Elizabeth (SAMPLE) ROWE. he was married November 18, 1882 to Dora MOORE in a ceremony held in Rochester. During his early years he operated a sawmill at Athens and did various kinds of contracting work. One of his contracting jobs was managing a group of laborers who worked on the installation of the Erie railroad in the eastern section of the county. Mr. Rowe then engaged in farming until failing health forced his retirement. He was a member of the United Brethren church of Athens. Surviving are his wife; four children, Fred ROWE, of this city; William ROWE, of Chicago; Mrs. Orpha BURKETT, of near Akron; Mrs. Bessie CLEMANS, of Logansport; a brother, Charles F. ROWE of Chicago; nineteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Athens United Brethren church with the Rev. Mrs. RISLEY officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Athens. The bodyis at the Moyer-Haupert funeral home, Akron, where friends may call.

ROWE, 90, who died in Chicago Tuesday, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Athens E.U.B. church with Rev. Mrs. F. A. RISLEY officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope cemetery at Athens. The body has been moved to the Moyer-Haupert Funeral Home in Akron where friends may call until the hour of the service. Mr. Rowe was born December 18, 1869 in the Athens community; his entire lifetime was spent there with the exception o the last ten years when he resided in Chicago with his nephew, Mr. and Mrs. William ROWE. He was the son of Charles and Elizabeth (SAMPLE) ROWE. The deceased was a retired farmer and a member of the Athens E. U. B. church. Obit | John S.'s obituary was published in the Dayton Journal on 1 November 1883: Mr. John Layton died at his residence yesterday morning. The deceased was born in 1817, and lived in Dayton the most of his life. He has been occupied in various mercantile pursuits, and was a member of several societies, being active among the Masons and Montgomery Lodge, I>O>O>R> He entered the army as a volunteer when the war first broke out and was mustered out at its close as a Lieutenant. He attended regularly all the meetings of the G.A.R. in Dayton. He was the father of eight children, four of whom are now living.
DIED. LAYTON -- On Wednesday at 12 o'clock, October 31st, John Layton. The funeral will take place from the residence of W.H. Layton, Fifth and Perry streets, on Friday, November 2d, at 2 p.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Friends invited.8 |
