Uncle John Wagner, as he was familiarly called and, who, a few months ago, went to Rago, Kansas, to visit his daughters, died there, Thursday, July 27th, and the remains were brought here for burial, which took place at the Noffsinger Cemetery, Sunday, in the presence of a large number of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends. The funeral was conducted by Rev. John Cripe. Deceased was the father of Mrs. H.M. Reavis, and was about 81 years of age, and we held in highest esteem by all who knew him. The bereaved friends have the sympathy of all in their affliction.

From Kingman County, Kansas:
Death's Doings. The grim reaper has visited four homes in the county, the past few days and taken from us respected and honored citizens. On Wednesday Pat McGee an old soldier and man with many friends, was taken; Tuesday before, J.K.P. Rogers, one of the best friends the Journal ever had, and one of the natures noblemen, passed away; Wednesday Carl Hay, brother of Geo. Hay, a splendid fellow and good citizen closed his eyes in death, and the same night Grandpa Wagner, father-in-law of Geo. Tibbits, went to sleep never to awaken. We would be pleased to have friends of the departed give us particulars, so we can publish obituaries next week. Our sympathies goes out to those who mourn. [No subsequent obituary found.]13,14
(Witness) BioFlorence Wagoner Field’s Note on John Perry (J.P.D.) Wagener:
John was a “whittler,” like John Abraham and Claude Wagoner. He whittled a flower, a three-link chain and a heart for Grandma Wagoner [Sarah Fancher Wagoner]. He made a brick scouring powder box for her, too. Ernest Field remembered the links and Mother [Anna Kinneman Wagoner] remembered the box so they were cherished articles in the home. His visit to the John Abraham Wagoner home near Macy, Indiana lasted a couple weeks in 1886. Uncle Frank Wagoner thought he lived in Illinois, but the rest of the family thought Kansas. He was around 70 and walked a mile each morning before having breakfast with the family. Dad [Samuel J. Wagoner] said he could put his knife between his toes and pick it up without bending his knees. He offered the knife to my father if he could do it. Dad practiced in case Uncle John ever came to visit again.3
