Mr. C.L. Wagener Called. Well and Favorably Known Woman Answers Final Call Following Illness of One Year-Funeral Services from the Residence on Tuesday Afternoon-Interment Union Cemetery.
We regret indeed to announce the passing of Mrs. C.L. Wagoner, well and favorably known at Altamont and at Greenville, her old home. Mrs. Wagener had been in ill health for a year, yet her passing is a heavy blow to her friends and loved ones. Funeral services were conducted from the home yesterday afternoon at one by Rev. L.B. Wissinger, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Interment was at beautiful Union Cemetery. We join with the legions of friends of the family in extending sympathy.
Rebecca Elizabeth Defrees was born in Sumner County, Tennessee on June 30, 1861, and passed away at Altamont on Sunday, October 25th, at the age of sixty four years, three months and twenty five days. When she was two years old her parents moved to Illinois, locating near Greenville, where she grew to womanhood. There she was married to C.L. Wagener, on March 29, 1885. To this union three sons were born. The eldest, Ovid Guy, died at the age of seven. The other two sons, R.D. Wagener and John Wagener, live at Altamont and were with their mother during her last illness.
Mr. Wagener and family came to Altamont a number of years ago, and they have made many friends during their residence here. Mrs. Wagener was quite active in home work during the World War, and she was connected with the Auxiliary following the war. She was a woman of high ideals, congenial with her neighbors and friends, and loving and devoted to her family. While her life was not a long life, it was a useful one, filled with worthy deeds.9
