Obit | Guy's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 17 March 1978: Guy HUNTER, 86, 907 Wabash Road, was killed in a two-car accident at 3:45 p.m. Thursday in Fulton county’s first fatal traffic accident of the year. Hunter was a passenger in a car driven by Robert L. DENTON, 51, R.R. 2, Rochester. Denton’s car was struck broadside by a car driven by Hiram J. McDANIEL, 53, Chesterfield, when it crossed in front of the McDaniel vehicle at County Road 100 North and U.S. 31. McDaniel was headed south on U.S. 31 and Denton was headed west on County Road 100 North. Mr. Hunter died at Woodlawn hospital of several broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Drivers of both vehicles were taken to Woodlawn, where they received treatment for minor injuries. McDaniel suffered a cut and bump on the forehead. Denton suffered a mouth injury and wrist laceration. Denton was arrested by state police and charged with drunken driving and failure to yield the right-of-way and is being held in Fulton county jail. He is to appear in county court March 29. The last traffic fatality in Fulton county was Aug. 2, when Andrew J. “Jack” GUNTER, 23, Rochester, drove his motorcycle into the path of a truck driven by Marjorie E. SHAMBARGER, R.R. 5, Rochester, on old U.S. 31 at County Road 300 South. Guy Edward HUNTER was born Feb. 16, 1892 near Leiters Ford to Alvin and Nora NEWCOMER HUNTER and was a lifetime resident of Fulton county. He was married May 10, 1917 in Fulton county to Lily E. JOHNSON. He retired in 1957 from Safeway Steel Products of Rochester. He was a member of the Father’s Auxiliary of the VFW and of the Eagles lodge. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Russell (Lucille) LINDEN, Peru; Mrs. Ermal (Dorothy) CRABIL, Lakeland, Fla. Mrs. Dean (Ruth) ZARTMAN, Lapaz, and Mrs. Harlen (Peggy) EHLINGER, Leiters Ford; eight sons, Arthur P. “Jack” [HUNTER], Daytona Beach, Fla; Charles E. “Bill” [HUNTER], Logansport; Harry L. [HUNTER], Arlington, Va; Robert W., Henry E., Alvin F. “Kelly” and Russell Dean [HUNTER], all of Rochester, and Larry Lee [HUNTER], Kewanna; twenty-eight grandchildren; sixty great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. David W. HEYWARD officiating. Burial will be in the Moon cemetery west of Rochester. Friends may call Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.1 |
