He was born March 28, 1851, in Carrol county, Ohio, to Henry and Susana (WALTERS) SPOHN, and moved to this county with his parents at the age of three. The deceasd was married to Mary Jane WOODCOX, who preceded him in death. The retired farmer had a host of friends throughout the community and was a member of the Rochester United Brethren church. Surviving are a son, Frances SPOHN of this city; a step-son Andrew J. SEWELL of Warsaw, Ill; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 o’clock Friday afternoon from the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home, Rev. David LIVENGOOD officiating. Intermant will be in the Rochester Citizens cemetery.1 |

Surviving are his wife, at home; two sons, Charles [SPOHN], R.R. 2, Rochester; Omer [SPOHN], R.R. 2, Plymouth; four daughters, Mrs. Hazel LUDWICK, San Diego, Cal; Mrs. Ruth KLINE, Escondido, Cal; Mrs. Elsie ILER and Mrs. Dorothy ZIMMERMAN, both of this city; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three cousins, Mattie, Bessie and Mamie BROWN, all of Rochester, and several nieces and nephews. Death was due to complications incident to old age and followed an illness of seven months. - - - - Photo of Ulrich Woodcox - - - - The deceased was born in Defiance, Ohio July 23, 1854 the son of Nelson and Nancy WOODCOX. He came to Fulton county to reside 66 years ago and followed the occupation of farming until his age forced his retirement. In a ceremony which was performed in this city July 11, 1875 he was married to Mary WALES. Mr. and Mrs. Woodcox celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Woodcox had been a member of the Burton church for 62 years. Survivors are the widow; the daughter, Mrs. YSBERG; three sons, Samuel [WOODCOX], Harley [WOODCOX] and Ray WOODCOX of this city; two half-brothers, Frank [WOODCOX] and David [WOODCOX], LaPorte; sister, Mrs. Wesley FRYER, Lapaz; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Two daughters preceded their father in death. The funeral arrangements had not been completed at the time The News-Sentinel went to press.
Funeral services for the late Ulrich WOODCOX, who died yesterday will be held from the Burton Church of which organization the deceased had been a member for 62 years at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Samuel OVERMYER, Naperville, Ill., a great-grandson of Mr. Woodcox, will officiate, assisted by Rev. James NEIL of Kewanna. Burial will be made in the Citizen’s cemetery. The Burton Church is located four miles west of the city in the Burton Road. The body of Mr. Woodcox is at the farm home of his daughter, Mrs. Eric YSBERG, ten miles southwest of Rochester in Liberty township instead of in West Seventeenth Street as it was previously announced.1 |

In the year of 1875 she was united in marriage with Ulrick WOODCOX, in a ceremony solemnized in Rochester. Mrs. Woodcox was a member of the Burton United Brethren church. Ray [WOODCOX] and Harley WOODCOX; a daughter, Mrs. Eric YSBERG, of near Rochester; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Amanda BOWMAN. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, 2 o’clock, at the Burton church for all friends over 16 years of age. Rev. Roy GAUMER will officiate. Survivors are the widow; five sons, Marion [WOODCOX], Paul [WOODCOX], Jonah [WOODCOX] and Hubert [WOODCOX], all of South Bend, and Leonard [WOODCOX], of Rochester; six daughters, Mrs. Mae FULTZ and Mrs. Ida Mae STEININGER, Rochester; Mrs. Mattie PLETCHER, Akron; Mrs. Bessie GOOD, South Bend; Mrs. Bertha GUARD, Bremen and Miss Carrie WOODCOX at home; brother, Ulerick WOODCOX, Rochester; sister Mrs. Ida FRAYER, LaPaz and 28 grandchildren. (Witness) Bio | Grover C. Field, son of Jason and Matilda Field, was born November 6, 1884, near Terre Haute, Indiana. He departed this life on December 12th, 1963, at Offerle, Kansas.
He moved to Kansas with his parents on October 17th, 1891, and lived near Danvile, later moving to Freeport and then to a small farm at Attica, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. After graduating from high school, he secured a teacher's certificate and taught for a few years before attending business College in Salina, Kansas. After completion of the various courses in Business College, he accepted a position at the bank in Plainville, Kansas and went there in 1908. On Septembe 29th, 1909, he married Alma A. Holmves and they celebrated their Golden Anniversary on September 29th, 1959.
There were three children: Irene - now deceased; Earl Field - Hays, Kansas; and Almalee Duesing - Hollister, Missouri. G.C. Field and family moved to Offerle, Kansas in March, 1919, and assumed management of The Farmers State Bank, remaining there until the time of his death Dec. 12th, 1963, spending 55 years in the banking business. During the days of the depression, while many banks were forced to close, Mr. Field, through careful management and direction, kept the bank on firm foundation and the doors open.
He was a prominent Mason, having taken his first degree at Plainview. [one sentence missing] He loved the out-of-doors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Offerle Lions Club and a booster of all Civic programs in the Offerle area. He served as Mayor and on the Council for many terms and retained a keen interest in youth until the time of his death. |

He leaves 3 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Pallbearers were Roy Knipp, Dick Warsam, Jim McKibben, Louis Woodson, Marion Earle and Arlie Rubey. Funeral services were conducted at High Point Church Saturday afternoon, and burial was in the cemetery there.7 |
