Akron, Ind., Feb. 10 -- Dr. Ray LAMOREE, aged about 40, a well known dentist, while working on a patient, Mrs. Calvin SNYDER, suddenly threw up his hands and dropped dead at 1:15 p.m. here today. Apoplexy is believed the cause. A doctor was summoned but life was extinct when he arrived. It is believed that he died instantly. Dr. Lamoree had seemingly been in good health and ate a most hearty dinner. He leaves a wife and three sons, aged 12, 10 and five. He came to Akron shortly before the Spanish-American war, in which he served, and has since practiced here. His home was originally in Michigan.5 |

Obit | Jonathan Finley's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 14 January 1932: Finley CLAY, aged 76, who for many years lived on a farm two miles east of this city on the Fort Wayne road, died this afternoon at 1:50 o'clock at the home of his son Ed, two and half miles northeast of this city on the Monticello road. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis which he suffered two weeks ago. Survivors are three sons, Ed [CLAY] at whose home he died, Roy [CLAY] of Gary, and Marty [CLAY] of Chicago. funeral arrangements will be announced later. Thursday, January 14, 1932 Finley CLAY, aged 76, who for many years lived on farm two miles east of this city on the Fort Wayne road, died Wednesday afternoon at 1:50 o'clock at the home of his son Ed, who resides two and one-half miles northwest of Rochester on the Monticello road. Death was due to a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Clay had been in ill health for a year and bedfast for the past four weeks. The deceased, who was a life-long resident of Fulton county, was born on a farm near Richland Center on Oct. 2, 1855. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan CLAY. In 1875 he was married to [Lorah] HOOVER who died ten years ago. Mr. Clay followed the occupation of a farmer all of his life. He was a member of the Christian church. Survivors are three sons, Ed [CLAY] at whose home he died, Roy [CLAY] of Gary, and Marty [CLAY], of Chicago, a sister Mrs. Dora BUTLER, of Rossvill, N.M., and a brother, William [CLAY] of this city. The body will lie in state at the Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home on south main street until the hour of the services at 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. John WALLENBERG, pastor of the Christian church, will be in charge. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows cemetery.9 |

Born near this city on Sept. 23, 1882, he was the son of Finley and Louise CLAY. He attended schools in this county and has spent practically his entire life in this community. The deceased was twice married, his first wife having been the former Vernie DENISTON, who with one son, preceded him. On Nov. 28, 1936 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Jennie CURTIS, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Maurice NEWMAN and Mrs. John SNYDER of this city; three sons, Roscoe [CLAY] and Homer [CLAY] of Rochester and Howard [CLAY] of Montpelier, Ohio; one step-daughter, Betty EVANS, at home; two brothers, Roy [CLAY] of Gary and Martin [CLAY] of Chicago; and 12 grandchildren. Final rites will be held from the Foster funeral home in this city at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Daniel SLAYBAUGH officiating. Burial will be made in Rochester IOOF cemetery. The body will be taken to the residence this evening and returned Wednesday noon to the Foster chapel where it will lie until the funeral hour.9 |

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock at the Christian Church with Rev. G. W. TITUS in charge. Burial will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.2 |

His parents were Ed and Verna DENNISON CLAY, both having preceded him in death. Mr. Clay, a farmer, was a member of the Richland Center I.O.O.F. lodge and of the Manitou Moose lodge. Surviving besides the wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Shirley) ALBER, Rochester; and Mrs. Richard (Margaret) BURKETT, Rochester; one son, Max [CLAY], Rochester; six grandchildren; two brothers, Homer [CLAY], Rochester, and Howard [CLAY], Montpelier, O; two sisters, Mrs. Maurice (Mildred) NEWMAN, Rochester; and Mrs. John (Pauline) SNYDER, South Bend. One brother preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is being returned to the Foster and Good funeral home, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Thursday.7 |

He apparently suffered the stroke while driving his car southwest of Akron Thursday afternoon. The father of Federal Court Judge Luther M. SWYGERT of Chesterton, Mr. Swygert fell while working on property he owns southwest of Akron, the sheriff’s office said today. He apparently was on his way to an Akron doctor’s office on the Cemetery road, three-fourths of a mile west of Akron, when he suffered the stroke. His car went off the road and traveled an estimated 140 feet before coming to a stop on the Erie Railroad tracks. The sheriff’s office placed the time of the accident at about 4:50 p.m. Mr. Swygert was rushed to Woodlawn hospital in an Akron ambulance. Born near South Bend in St. Joseph county on Dec. 26, 1876, Mr. Swygert was the son of Joel and Amanda DAWALT SWYGERT. In 1903 he was married in Akron to Kathryn HOOVER, who died in 1953. He was a retired farmer and had lived in Akron 70 years. Surviving besides Judge Swygert is a grandson, Michael SWYGERT, Carleton college, Northfield, Minn. Services will be at 2 p.m. DST Sunday at the Sheetz funeral home in Akron with the Rev. Claude FAWNS officiating. Burial will be in the Akron cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Saturday. |

Two brothers, Edward CLAY, west of Rochester, and Artie CLAY, of Chicago, also survive. The body was brought to the Wiltshire home in Macy Friday afternoon and funeral arrangements will be announced in Saturday’s issue of The News-Sentinel. Saturday, August 31, 1929 Funeral services for Mrs. Arch WILTSHIRE, of Macy, who died Friday morning at a hospital in Indianapolis will be held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock at the Macy Methodist Church. Surviving with the wife are a daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Lorene) MYERS Jr., R.R. 1, Rochester; a son, Dale [CLAY], of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Maurice (Mildred) NEWMAN and Mrs. Pauline SNYDER, both of Rochester, and nieces and nephews. Survivors include one daughter, Lorene and husband Melvin MYERS Jr., Rochester; one son, Dale and wife Kay CLAY, Indianapolis; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Maxine MOLLENCUPP, Lois and husband C.L. STONES, Jean DUZAN, Barbara and husband Glen BRADLEY, all of Rochester and Donna and husband Robert ANGLIN, Wabash; two brothers, DeVerl and wife Marjorie HOLLOWAY, Robert and wife Vera HOLLOWAY, all of Rochester; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Dawn Elaine BATHRICK on April 4, 1982, two sisters, Pauline BLANCHARD and Betty HOLLOWAY and two brothers, Leonard [HOLLOWAY] and Larry HOLLOWAY. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester with Rev. David DITTMAN officiating. Burial will be in Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday or after 9 a.m. Thursday until the hour of service.2 |

Obit | Esther L.'s obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 1 June 1944: Saturday, May 27, 2000] Esther Grove Hoover Rochester friends, early today, were apprised of the death of Mrs. Harold HOOVER, which occurred Wednesday evening at her home in Dundee, Mich. Mrs. Hoover, a former resident of this community during the earlier years of her life, will be better remembered by her maiden name of Esther GROVE. Death was attributed to hardening of the nerve centers and followed an illness of several months duration. The brief message received here stated that funeral services would be held Saturday afternoon, 2 o’clock, but the place of the funeral was not stated. Mrs. Hoover, who was born in Rochester over two score years ago, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orange K. GROVE. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Alice [HOOVER] and Isabelle [HOOVER]; a grandchild; and five sisters, Sylvia [GROVE], Genevieve [GROVE], and Ruth [GROVE], of California; Mrs. Maple DuBOIS, of Roann, Ind; and Mrs. Fannie MOW, of Ft. Wayne, Ind. An infant daughter preceded her mother in death.3 |
