Surviving with his wife, Ruth, are two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Jane) KENNEDY, Syracuse; Mrs. Dallas (Carol) SCOTT, Hendersonville, Tenn; a son, Larry BURCH, Fishers; a step-son, Edward SHANEBERGER, North Manchester; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Galen (Geneva) GRONINGER, Plainfield; Mrs. Robert (Nina) DeFORD, North Manchester; and five brothers, Max BURCH, Wabash; V.L. “Bud” BURCH, North Manchester; Harvey BURCH, North Manchester; Byron BURCH, Indianapolis; and Gene BURCH, Rochester. Preceding in death were a son, David [BURCH], in 1985 and two brothers, Raymond and Sam [BURCH]. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. Charles ARMSTRONG officiating. Burial will be in the Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.5 |

She was a member of the General Tire Retirement Club, a 51 year member of Farm Bureau, a charter member of the Wabash AARP, and home demonstration club, Wabash. They moved to Wabash In 1981 after living on farms in Fulton, Miami and Wabash Counties. Survivors include one son, Robert L. BURCH, Wabash; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel. 1177 Manchester Ave., Wabash. Rev. David PHILLIPS will officiate. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery. Wabash. McMAHAN, 73, for more than 70 years a resident of Fulton county, died at 5:30 o’clock Monday morning at his home on South Main St., a victim of heart trouble and complications, from which he had been suffering for the past year. Altho he had been very ill at times recently, he was able to be up for an hour Sunday. John B. McMahan was born at Columbus, Ind., on October 4th, 1845, one of a family of 10 children born to Mrs. and Mrs. William McMAHAN, four of whom, Mrs. Frank MOORE, of Rochester; Miss Clara McMAHAN, south of the city; Mrs. Louise MYERS, of Leiters, and William W. McMAHAN, of Hammond, survive. Three sisters and two brothers preceded him. When two years of age, he moved with his family to Fulton county residing from that time until 12 years ago on a farm south of Rochester. Upon retiring, he moved to Rochester where he lived until the time of his demise. On December 8th, 1871, he was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca GOSS, who survives. To this union there were born 12 children, 10 of whom survive: Mrs. John SCHAAF, north of Rochester; Mrs. Mel HAY, Postmaster Otto McMAHAN, Hugh [McMAHAN], Tom [McMAHAN], John [McMAHAN], James [McMAHAN] and Miss Jesse [McMAHAN], all of Rochester, and Pat [McMAHAN] and Bill [McMAHAN], southwest of the city. Two daughters, Mrs. Dal BLACK and Mrs. Omar SMITH, are dead. While not a member, Mr. McMahan’s religious tendencies were towards the Methodist church. He was a charter member of the Ben Hur and Maccabee lodges. Funeral at the house Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. George CRAIG in charge. Interment in mausoleum.4 |

Obit | Rebecca's obituary was published in the an unknown place on 9 August 1926: The sudden passing of Mrs. Rebecca McMAHAN, who died at 1:30 a.m. Monday at her residence on south Main street, was a severe shock to her children and friends. Mrs. McMahan had been enjoying the best of health for the past number of years and was not heard to have complained of feeling badly upon retiring Sunday night. Shortly after 1 o’clock this morning she suffered a stroke of apoplexy which resulted in her death a few moments later. Rebecca [GOSS], daughter of George and Elizabeth GOSS, was born on a farm in the Salem neighborhood, Fulton county on March 14th, 1853. On December 28th, 1871 whe was united in marriage to John McMAHAN, who preceded her in death by eight years. To this union twelve children were born: Mrs. John SCHAAF, of Fernandina, Fla., Mrs. Mel HAY, Bakersfield, Calif., Otto [McMAHAN], Hugh [McMAHAN], and Tom [McMAHAN] of this city, William [McMAHAN] and Pat [McMAHAN] of Fernandina, Fla; John McMAHAN] and Jim [McMAHAN] of Bakersfield, Calif., and Miss Jessie [McMAHAN] of this city. Two daughters, Mrs. Omer C. SMITH and Mrs. Dal BLACK, preceded their mother in death. Besides sixteen grandchildren the deceased leaves three sisters, Mrs. Angeline BURTON, of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Marie ALSPACH and Mrs. Frank MARSH of Rochester. The funeral in charge of Rev. R. H. CROWDER will be held at the McMahan home on south Main street, Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Burial will be made in the local mausoleum.4 |

Death was attributed to pneumonia. Mr. Hoover resided at 1130 Monroe street, this city. Paul Herschell, son of Earl and Ota SOWERS HOOVER, was born in the Mr. Zion community on February 8, 1916, and had resided in Rochester and vicinity his entire life. The deceased, who followed the occupation of a printer, attended the Rochester Christian church. Surviving are the parents, at home; three brothers, Victor HOOVER, Des Moines, Iowa; Glenn HOOVER, Akron; Doyne HOOVER, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia FLOHR, Akron; Mrs. Miriam SMITH, Indianapolis; and one grandmother, Mrs. Emma SOWERS, South Bend. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, two o’clock, from the Christian church, this city. Rev. Harry MOUNT will officiate and burial will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Rochester. The body will be removed from the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home to the Hoover residence, this city, Monday morning. Friends may call at the residence, or at the funeral home prior to Monday morning.1 |

He had only been ill since Friday evening. Roy, son of Ed and Vernie (DENISTON) CLAY, was born on August 26, 1910 on a farm northwest of Rochester and all of his life had been spent in this community. On May 10, 1930 he was married to Miss Miriam HOOVER. Surviving are his wife; one son, Richard [CLAY]; father, Ed Clay; three brothers, Howard [CLAY], Homer [CLAY] and Roscoe [CLAY], and two sisters, Mrs. Pauline SNYDER and Mrs. Mildred NEWMAN, all of Rochester.
