Obit | George W.'s obituary was published in the Springfield Daily News on 9 June 1926: Suicide Blamed on Despondency. G. W. Slisher, Fraternal Home Resident, Ends Life. George W. Slisher, for 10 years a resident of the Ohio Pythian Home for the Aged, committed suicide Tuesday night in a small house in the gardens of the home, by cutting his wrists, and his throat and then hanging himself. The body was not discovered until 7 a.m. Wednesday. When it was found that his bed had been unoccupied during the night, a search was instituted for him and the body was found by an attendant. Despondency over the loss of his two legs some years ago in an accident is believed to have been the cause of the rash deed. Coroner Theodore L. Schaeffer, who was called, pronounced death due to suicide by hanging. Fellow residents of the home said that Mr. Slisher several times had made threats that he would end his life, but as these threats appeared to be made in a joking manner, they were not taken seriously. Mr. Slisher was born in Lancaster, Ohio, and came to the home from Cleveland. He leaves a daughter and two brothers. The body was removed to the Coffman funeral parlors. (Springfield Daily News, Wednesday, 9 June 1926, page 1.) George W. Slisher, 67, committed suicide by hanging Tuesday night, June 8, 1926, at the Ohio Pythian Home for the Aged. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the home. The body will be taken Friday to Lancaster, Ohio, where burial will be made at 2 p.m. (Springfield Daily News, Thursday, 10 June 1926, page 21.) |
Death* | He died on 9 June 1926 at Ohio Knights of Pythian Home for the Aged, Springfield, Clark, Ohio, at age 67; from suicide by hanging; divorced; buried at the Forest Rose Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio.8,3 |
