Sept. 22, 1913–Aug. 20, 2004 Edward D. SHEWMAN, 90, of 814 East Walnut Street, Akron, died at 11:50 a.m. Friday at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. He was born Sept. 22, 1913 to Worthy Shewman and Elva Jontz in Akron. On April 13, 1935 he married Dora E. Rowe. She died Nov. 3, 2003. Mr. Shewman was an outside salesman for Trick Supplies, North Manchester from 1952 to 1978. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church. He is survived by two sons, Fred and wife Helen, Cascade, Mont., Andy and wife Nancy, North Manchester; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. His funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron with the Rev. Robert Jarboe officiating. Burial will be in the Akron Cemetery.3

Mrs. William McINTYRE, aged 82, died Tuesday morning at the home of her son, Harold McINTYRE southwest of Akron where she had been living this winter. Death was due to complications and followed an illness dating since November. The home of the deceased is located two and a half miles west of Akron. Nancy Margaret WHITE was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter WHITE. She was born near Rochester and spent her entire lifetime in the Rochester, Athens and Akron communities. Mrs. McIntyre was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist church. Survivors are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. Lulu RITTER of Tippecanoe and Mrs. Emmaline LEHMAN of Mentone; a son, Harold McINTYRE; three brothers, George [WHITE] and Frank WHITE of Akron and John WHITE of Elkhart; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The last rites will be conducted from the United Brethren church in Athens at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Floyd HARDY officiating. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows cemetery at Akron.7

(Witness) BioC. F. White has spent a busy and industrious life in the southwest corner of Kosciusko County or over the line in Fulton County, had made what he has by his enterprise and resourcefulness, and is owner of a splendid farm of 120 acres in Franklin Township.
He was born in Fulton County April 17, 1867, a son of Peter and Sarah A. (Prill) White. His father was a native of Summit County, Ohio, and his mother of Carroll County, Indiana. They married in Fulton County, and then settled on a farm. Their first place was twenty-one acres, and that tract of land was in the family ownership for fifty-one years. Peter White and wife had seven children, and the six still living are: Alfrertta, wife of John Whaley; Margaret, wife of William McEntire; C.F; John and William, twins; and George, who also lives in Franklin Township.
C.F. White grew up in Fulton County and lived at home until he was twenty-one years of age, when he started out to make his own way in the world. July 20, 1893, he married Florence Ballenger. She was born in Franklin Township Decembe 26, 1869, and grew up on a farm and was educated in the local schools.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. White settled on a farm in Franklin Township, and they have made their present prosperity during the past twenty-five years. Mr. and Mrs. White are members of the Church of God and in politics he is a republican. They three manly and enterprising young sons: Andrew, born November 27, 1895, who married Mertie Wilcox on November 20, 1917; Charles E., born September 4, 1897; and Fletcher E., born September 18, 1899.

Frank R. WHITE, 75, farmer of three and one-half miles northwest of Akron, died this morning at 2:00 at Woodlawn hospital. Death was due to complications. Mr. White suffered a broken hip several weeks ago in a fall during a heart attack. Mr. White was born in 1867, the son of Peter and Sarah WHITE. He was married to Emma BALLENGER, who survives, at Akron in 1893. He was a member of the Olive Bethel Church of God. Survivors besides the widow are three sons, Andrew [WHITE], of Michigan; Charles [WHITE], of near Akron; and Fletcher [WHITE], at home; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements have not been completed; the body is now at the Moyer funeral home in Akron.
Saturday, August 1, 1942 Funeral services for Frank R. WHITE, who died yesterday at Woodlawn hospital, will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the White residence northwest of Akron. Rev. D. L. SLAYBAUGH will be in charge. Burial will be made in the Nichols cemetery northwest of Akron.2

George E. WHITE, 80, retired farmer residing four and a half miles north of Akron, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday. He had been ill for several weeks from pneumonia. Mr. White had been a resident of Henry township his entire life. He was born in Akron, Dec. 2, 1872, to Peter and Sarah (PRILL) WHITE. On Nov. 11, 1893, he was married to Sidella ADAMSON, who preceded him in death in July, 1950. Mr. White was a member of Olive Bethel Church of God. Survivors are two sons: Everett [WHITE], Terre Hauts; Claud [WHITE], Akron; a daughter, Eliza Ann WHITE, at home, and a brother, John [WHITE], Elkhart. Five brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Olive Bethel Church of God with the Rev. Gerald SNYDER in charge. Burial will be in the Nichols cemetery. The body will be taken from the Moyer-Haupert funeral home to the White residence at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Friends may call at the residence.2

Surviving are the husband; two sons, Gerald [BALLINGER], Mentone and Chester [BALLINGER], Claypool; one daughter, Mrs. Robert W. WHITTENBERGER, Akron; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Lester WHITE, Talma and Walter WHITE, Plymouth. The body will be removed from the Moyer-Haupert funeral home to the residence, five miles northwest of Akron, at 10 o’clock Thursday. Friends may call.4

Surviving are his wife, [Bessie WHITE]; three sons, Wilbur [WHITE], Paxton, Ill; Edward [WHITE], Tampa, Fla. and Howard [WHITE], of Culver; two daughters, Mrs. Win HANSEN, Culver, and Mrs. Lee ANDERS, Plymouth; one brother, Lester WHITE, Rochester; seventeen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. [Andrew and Fletcher WHITE of R.R. 2, Akron, are cousins.] Final rites will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Johnson funeral home in Plymouth. The Rev. Garry L. Hartley will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill cemetery at Plymouth.3

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Olive Bethel Church of God with Pastors James MALBONE and Robert W. FIELDS officiating. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery. Fletcher W. WHITE, 86, Rt. 2, Akron, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Hospital. He had been ill five years. He was born Sept. 18, 1899 in Kosciusko County to Frank and Florence BALLENGER WHITE. He was a farmer and was a member of the Olive Bethel Church of God and the Fulton County Historical Society. Surviving are a brother, Charles [WHITE], Rt. 2, Akron; a niece, and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hartzler Funeral Home in Akron with the Revs. Robert O’DELL and James MALBONE officiating. Burial will be in the Nichols Cemetery north of Akron. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Olive Bethel Church of God or to FCHS.7

Mrs. Delilah BALLENGER, 86, died Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank WHITE, four and a half miles northwest of Akron. Death was due to complications incident to old age. The deceased fell and broke her hip three years ago and has been bedfast since that time. Delilah JUDD was born in Wayne county, Indiana on March 29, 1840 and was one of five children of Mr. and Mrs. Allen JUDD. When she was quite young her parents moved to Fulton county, settling on a farm near Akron. She has lived in Henry township during her entire life. The deceased married William BALLENGER when she was 21 years of age and went to live on a farm near the Olive Bethel church west of Beaver Dam. She is survived by three sons, Allen
[BALLENGER] of Athens, Edward [BALLENGER] of Akron and Frank [BALLENGER] of this city and one daughter, Mrs. Frank WHITE, and brother Thomas JUDD of Elkhart. Mrs. Ballenger was a member of the Olive Bethel Church of God. The funeral services will be held from the Nichols church at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Samuel STRANG of LaPaz in charge. Burial will be made in the Nichols cemetery.2

William McINTIRE, aged 88, died Monday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Thomas RITTER, at Tippecanoe. A former resident of the Athens and Akron communities, McIntire had made his home in recent years with his daughter. Death followed an illness of two weeks. McIntire was born north of Athens, the son of Jacob and Ann McINTIRE. His wife preceded him in death three years ago. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include the daughter, at whose home he died, another daughter, Mrs. Emma LEHMAN, of Mentone; a son, Harold McINTIRE, of South Whitley; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services have not been arranged.
Tuesday, June 22, 1943 Funeral services for William McINTIRE, 88, who died Monday at Tippecanoe, will be held at 1:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon at White church, Tippecanoe, with Rev. Nil FISHER in charge. Burial will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Akron. McIntire died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Thomas RITTER. The body will be returned to the daughter’s home Wednesday afternoon, after which time friends may call. Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Elmer APT, Liberty township farmer who died Monday at the age of 74. Rites will be held at 2 o’clock at the United Brethren church in Fulton, followed by burial in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.3
