DeathExp According to family lore, Alexander was digging a grave for a neighbor when a bushwhacker passed by and shot him in the head. Lucinda gathered up his brains in her apron and carried them to the grave to be buried with him. He was buried in the grave he was digging for the neighbor.2 
Death*He died on 8 September 1864 at Newton, Arkansas, at age 47; killed by bushwhackers; buried at the Curtis Cemetery between Fallsville and Swain.3,2
