Mary Lee Curtis of Williamston, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the age of 98.
She was the daughter of Margaret Maree Robertson and Jasper Luther Johnson of Robersonville, NC. She is survived by her brother, William Jasper (Bill) Johnson (Barbara).
She leaves behind her children, Jonatha Roberts Swatek (Bob) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Nan Curtis Peaks (JL) of Williamston, NC, Jesse Wed (Curt) Curtis II (Sandra) of Watkinsville, GA, and Tony Dale Curtis (Cathy) of Midlothian, VA. She was preceded in death by her dear husband of nearly 60 years, Jesse Wed (Papa Jake) Curtis and grandson, Clay Dean Curtis.

In addition to her children, she had 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Her family, church and her nursing were her passions. She took great pleasure in nursing patients of all ages across the county. At first, a hospital nurse at Martin General and then at the Martin County Health Department as a prenatal nurse. She always gave 100 percent in everything she did. She will be remembered as a strong willed woman. Private graveside service will be on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 11AM at Martin Memorial Gardens. Biggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.2

NoteB* On 12 January 1834, William Boyd appeared in Washington County, Arkansas court to testify regarding his application for a Revolutionary War pension. Among the men he served with were Russel and Moses Curtis. He further stated that he was born in Southampton County, Virginia on 11 August 1760 and lived in Rowan County, North Carolina when he was called into service. Following the war, he lived in Montgomery County, North Carolina, Warren County, Tennessee, Lauderdale County, Alabama, McNairy County, Tennessee and then resided in Washington County, Arkansas.19 
Death*Russel Curtis died on 17 January 1834 at Trigg, Kentucky, at age 77; possibly buried at old Curtis or Stallons Cemetery, no headstone present.1,20

Only 5 of their 15 children had surviving descendants at that time, namely, John, James, Cynthia, Annie and Phoebe. Prescia did not marry. The names of their other children are not known. The several repetitions of the names of the Emmert heirs are inconsistent and together overstate the number of heirs, which should be 16.15
