Charles "Charkie" Curtis, 55, of Princeton, died Friday Aug. 20, 1999 at Caldwell County Hospital, Princeton, Ky., after an apparent heart attack. He was a tire technician at Ray's service tire in Princeton. He lived and worked in Princeton the past five years. Previously he lived and worked in Evansville, Ind. He was the son of Mrs. Cynthia Nellums Curtis Riley of Caldwell County and John Dillard Curtis, Jr., who preceded him in death in 1975.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Connie Turpen Curtis ; a son, Todd A. Curtis of Evansville, Ind; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacey D. and Delbert Glenn of Evansville, Ind; five grandchildren ; Breanne and Zachary Glenn of Evansville, Ind., Brittany and Madison Curtis of Newburgh, Ind., Jordan Curtis of San Angelo, Texas ; six brothers, James Curtis, Joe Curtis, and Michael "Spanky" Curtis, all of Caldwell County, Buddy Curtis of Boonville, Ind., Roger Curtis and Melvin Curtis, of Evansville, Ind ; a sister, Paula Dunning of Caldwell County ; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Aug. 22, at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Elvis Young officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay, Ky.3

He was a member of Grace Family Fellowship Church. He was survived by one sister, Nancy Gwarek; four brothers, James Curtis, Richard Curtis, Stanly Curtis and Mike Curtis; stepdaughters, Ann Peed, Carol Revels, Wanda Bowen, Nancy Simpson and Lisa Rice; three stepsons, Tom Laary, David Leary and Randy Leary; several stepchildren. His graveside service was held October 25, 2008, with The Rev. Dallas Gurganus officiating.1

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen Meiers and husband, Jim of Lubbock; sons, Carl Curtis and wife, Jill of San Diego, CA, Larry Curtis and wife, Rhonda of Escondido, CA, John Curtis and wife, Jennifer of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Amanda Meiers, Cody Meiers, Brian E Curtis, Kristine Curtis, Lisa Murphy, Gina Arwood, Brian P Curtis, and Dana Curtis; and six great-grandchildren. Our Mom was the ninth child of eleven born on March 13, 1929 to Eliam and Vettie Wilson Pritchard, and was the last one living. She was born and raised in the mountains of North Carolina in Avery County which she dearly loved. After living in Hudson most of her life, Mom retired from Snyder Paper Company in Hickory and moved to Burlington in 1994 to watch her granddaughter, Emily, grow up. Until the dementia, Mom loved to watch NASCAR, Richard Petty and Jeff Gordon. You'd better not call her during a race, because she wouldn't answer the telephone. She also loved most sports, especially the North Carolina State Wolfpack and anybody who played the Tar Heels! She loved to read, quilt, cook and care for her family. She loved to see the grandchildren come in for a visit. She liked helping people whenever and wherever she could, but didn't like to accept help herself. She had a temper and would let you know when you made her mad, but she was also a gentle soul. She loved to laugh, and to see her laugh would make you laugh also.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers and sisters: Dovie Stamey, Ruby Deaton, Sylvia Biggerstaff, Pauline Cutherberson, Daymon Pritchard, Margaret Braswell, Darris Pritchard, Delmar Penley, Dillard Pritchard, and Floretta Colvard. She had been married to our father, Julius Clifford Curtis before divorce. She is survived by sons, Richard Allen Curtis and wife Jane of Fairfax Station, VA; Eugene Curtis and wife Angela of Granite Falls, NC; and daughter Patricia Anne Curtis Apple and husband Wade of Burlington, NC; known as grandmommy to grandchildren; Richard Tyler Curtis and wife Alyson of Washington DC; Charlotte Cromley Curtis of Northampton, MA; and Nanny to Emily Danielle Apple of Burlington, NC and Drew Noonan of Granite Falls, NC; and one great grandson, Owen James Curtis of Washington DC. The visitation will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 11-12 with the memorial service immediately following at Baton United Methodist Church at 1034 Dry Ponds Road, Granite Falls, NC. The family would like to thank Janice Worth and all the aides at Springview Assisted Living on North Mebane St., Burlington for all the wonderful care that they gave to our Mom for over the past three years. They are angels to have as caregivers. We would also like to thank all of the nurses , CNA's and doctors at The Hospice Home for their loving, tender care shown to our Mom during the last week. Anna Brookshire Curtis, 91, of the Kings Creek Community passed away at Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care on March 26, 2014. She was born in Caldwell County on April 23, 1922, to the late Elisha Herring and Ola Floy Laxton Brookshire. Ann was a member of Kings Creek Baptist Church and worked for many years as a medical office assistant for both Dr. Kenneth Carpenter and Dr. Donald Lackey in Lenoir. Until a few years ago, she was a Green Thumb worker at Wilkes Community College in Nor th Wilkesboro. She was also a past member of the Kings Creek Fire Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Columbus Curtis, two brothers, Ned and John Nelson Brookshire Sr., and a daughter, Martha Ford Allen. She is sur vived by a sister, Mavis Brookshire Robbins Fleming; her granddaughter, Lori Bryant of the home; grandsons Scott and Dennis Bryant; a stepdaughter, Patricia Curtis Kight, and stepson, Wayne Curtis of Claxton, Ga; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. According to her wishes, graveside ser vices were held at Blue Ridge Cemeter y on Friday, March 28. Memorials may be made to Bethel Colony of Mercy, 1675 Bethel Colony Road, Lenoir, NC 28645; Kings Creek Baptist Church, 4698 Kings Creek Church Road, Lenoir, NC 28645; Kings Creek Fire Department, 3420 Wilkesboro Blvd., Lenoir, NC 28645; or another charity of your choice.
