Obit | Mary Frances's obituary was published in the Journal on 28 July 1944: Mrs. Mary Curtis, 91, Stella, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.C. Marts, near Stella. Mrs. Curtis had been in failing health for some time, but was confined to her bed more than two weeks during which time she had been cared for at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Curtis had lived in or near Stella for 60 yrs. Her husband, Andrew J. Curtis, died several years ago and she and her son, Dayton Curtis, had continued to maintain the home in Stella. Besides Mrs. Marts and the son, Dayton Curtis, she is survived by four other daughters, Mrs. Ed Ailer, Haddam, Ks, Mrs. Harvey Young, Texas, Mrs. Amanda Marts, Nebraska City, and Mrs. Clyde Teare of Oakland, Calif. A son, Cecil Curtis, Loveland, Colo, died only recently. Two grandsons and a great-grandson, Pvt. Clarence Stewart, of Stella are in the service. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at the Christian church in Stella in charge of Rev. Ward Merritt. Burial was in the Stella cemetery. |
