The survivors of the late Mr. Slisher are his father, John SLISHER, of Macy; his brothers, Paul [SLISHER] and Charles [SLISHER], of Macy; Carl [SLISHER] of Chicago; and Devoe [SLISHER], of Michigan City; and one sister, Mrs. Zadie GUNTER, of Michigan City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the Macy Christian church with Rev. R. M. Black, of Macy, conducting. Wood officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday until the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Slisher was born Dec. 26, 1906 in Hammond, Ind., to John and Ellen Slisher. He retired in 1971 as a foreman for the Norfolk & Western Railroad after 40 years of service. Mrs. Slisher had also served for many years as a school crossing guard at Garretson and Franklin streets. On Dec. 24, 1927, in Rochester, Ind., he married Thelma J. Wagoner, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Ronald and Charles, both of Michigan City; Claude, Knox, Ind; two daughters, Ellen Miller and Pearl Lubs, both of Valparaiso, Ind; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Zadie Gunter, Michigan City. A son, Vernon, a great-grandchild, four brothers and a sister are deceased. Mr. Slisher was a member of First Christian Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 1228 of Michigan City.4 |

Obit | Claude Oliver's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 8 June 1987: Claude O. WAGONER, 75, Talma, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday at his home. He had been in ill health for several months. He was born Feb. 3, 1912 in Macy to John William and Pearl COFFING WAGONER. He had lived here 39 years. On Feb. 20, 1937 in Crown Point he married Martha J. NORMAN, who survives. He was a retired carpenter and graduated from the Macy schools. Surviving with the wife are a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Nettie) FISHER, Talma; two sons, Norman O. [WAGONER], Westfield, and Jesse E. [WAGONER], Algonquin, Ill; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six sisters, Thelma SLISHER, Michigan City; Sarah E. SMITH, Fort Myers, Fla; Wilma FOUTS, Sebring, Fla; Madge BRONSON, Sisters, Ore; Ada Beatrice DOREY, Lawndale, Calif., and Evelyn WAGONER, San Francisco, Calif; and two brothers, John [WAGONER], Fulton, and Phillip [WAGONER], Fairfield, Calif. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ida DUBOIS, Ella SHARP and Mary Gladys WAGONER, and a brother, Ernest [WAGONER]. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Zion Cemetery with the Rev. Lester TAYLOR, Mentone United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at the Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester, from 2 to 4 and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Cancer Society or charity of choice.4 |

CANNON, 30, former resident of Kewanna, was instantly killed Thursday morning, when the auto which he was driving was struck by a Pennsylvania passenger train at a grade crossing near Valparaiso, Ind. Mr. Cannon, who was employed by the American Bridge Co. of Valparaiso, was enroute to work when the tragedy occurred. His automobile was completely demolished by the impact. The deceased had a host of friends throughout the western section of Fulton county. John E., son of Mr. and Mrs. John G. CANNON, was born March 15th, 1913 at Kewanna, Ind. In October of 1932 he was united in marriage with Zadie R. SLISHER, of Macy. Later this union was dissolved by divorce. He later was married to Dorothy WAYNE, of Valparaiso. Survivors are his widow; a son, James Robert [CANNON], by his second marriage; two daughters, Alice Maxine [CANNON], of Michigan City, Ind; Delois Ruth [CANNON], of Kewanna, by the first union; his mother, Mrs. Homer WENTZEL, of Kewanna; and two sisters, Mrs. Esther KUHN, of Valparaiso, and Miss Ruth CANNON, of Kewanna. Brief services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday at Valparaiso and the body will then be taken to the Harrison funeral home in Kewanna where at 2 p.m. Saturday the regular rites will be held. Rev. Henry BULGER, of Medaryville will officiate. Burial will be made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Kewanna.10 |
