Obit | Manford Eugene (Gene)'s obituary was published in the Wenatchee Woirld on 7 June 1980: Ardenvoir-- Manford "Gene" Curtis, 62, Ardenvoir, longtime Entiat Valley resident, died Monday at Central Washington Hospital. Mr. Curtis was born at Wright, Iowa, Oct. 20, 1917, and completed his formal education there. He moved with his parents to Kansas City, Kan., where they resided a short time, later moving to Entiat. On Mar. 28, 1951, he married Margaret Criswell in Spokane. Mr. Curtis had been employed as a machinist for the Ardenvoir Mill until two years ago, when he retired. He was a member of the Wenatchee Valley Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, at home; one daughter, Eileen Curtis, Ellensburg; his father, Edward Curtis, Wenatchee; half-brother, Merle Curtis, Illinois; and one sister, Sharon Cook, Aberdeen. Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his mother and an infant son. Betts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.2 |

She was born April 17, 1922, in Dyer County, TN to Otho and Linnie (Asbridge) Criswell. She had been a resident of the Wenatchee area for 50 years. Margaret and Manford Eugene "Gene" Curtis were married March 28, 1951, in Spokane. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was a member of the Wenatchee Valley Baptist Church and was a member of the "Charity" Sunday School class. She was the only member of her family to leave the home of Tennessee and loved her family reunions when she would visit Tennessee. Her interests and hobbies included crocheting, knitting and quilting and she enjoyed traveling, particularly to Dyersburg, TN, camping at Silver Falls and at the ocean in Westport. She cherished going to church and singing hymns. She loved being with family and friends and entertaining them at her home at Ardenvoir. She will be remembered for her love and generosity and would want her family and friends to serve the Lord with gladness all the days of their lives. She is survived by her daughter, Eileen and her husband, Lynn Dronen of Wenatchee; her grandchildren, Andrew, Anna and Ginger Dronen; her brothers, Raymond Criswell of Dyersburg, TN, W.L. Criswell of Fowlkes, TN; her sister, Charlotte Moore of Newbern, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, her infant son Daniel Eugene and her sister Helen Rice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Betts Memorial Chapel. Pastor Mike Crowe of Foothills Foursquare Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Entiat Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Department of Cashmere Convalescent Center or to Central Washington Hospital Dialysis Center. Services are under the direction of Betts Funeral Service.1 |
