Mr. Curtis was born July 5, 1910, in Waverly, Tenn. On July 17, 1933, at Caruthersville, he was married to Thelma Rushing. She preceded him in death in Feb. 26, 1990. He was a member of the Hayti Fire Department for several years where he served as chief. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Curtis died may 21, 1995 at Hayti.
Survivors include two daughters and sons in law; Alma Jo and Bob Churchill, Caruthersville, Vicki and Joe Moore, Sikeston; three brothers Floyd (Bud) Curtis, Harrison, Ark, Boyd Curtis, Hayti, and J.W. Curtis, Jonesville, LA; Five sisters, Virginia Christian, Portageville, Bernice Soell, St. Louis, Ruth Woolery, Wichita, Kansas,Loreese Soalwester, Memphis, and Genevieve Pate,Hayti; his Step Mother Emma Curtis, Hayti; five grandchildren Kelley Burg, Kim Churchill, Joe Moore Jr.,Henry Moore, and Christoper Moore; and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ricky Ings, Butch Mitchell, Bob Turnage, Terry Ray, W.T. Davidson, and Milford Chism. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Barron, George Camp, George Metzger, James Klinkhardt, Dalton Rogers, Vernon Dobbins, Gene Turnage, Harley Thornton, and Neely Mitchell. John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of the arrangements.1

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Hayti, Sunday afternoon for Miss Juanita Curtis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Curtis of Braggadocio, who was instantly killed in an auto accident near Union, Missouri last Friday, Septbember 1. Miss Curtis and her finance, Arne Wulfert of St. Louis had been on a visit to relatives of Mr. Wulfert at their cottage on the Lake of the Ozarks, and were returning to St. Louis when their car skidded and rolled down an embankment during a heavy rainstorm. Mr. Wulfert died about four hours after being taken to a hospital in Union. The young couple were to have been married in October. Miss Curtis, 25, was born in Pemiscot County on September 15, 1924. She was graduated from the Braggadocio High School in the class of 1942, and since that time had been employed in the office of the U.S. Engineer Corps. of St. Louis. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by her parents; four brothers, Leslie, Boyd and Floyd Curtis of Hayti and Loyd Curtis of this city; one half-brother, James Ward of Hayti; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Morgan of Portageville, Miss Bernice Curtis of St. Louis and Miss Ruth Curtis of Camp Hood, Texas; one half-sister, Miss Loreese Curtis of Portageville and one step-sister, Mrs Geneive Pate of Hayti. The Rev. J. T. Spurlin conducted the funeral services and interment was in Maple Cemetery. H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services for Mr. Wulfert were held in Overland, Missouri, on Tuesday.2

Services were held Tuesday, May 30, 2000, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Hayti, with Rev. Bill Wolfe officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti.3
