In 1853 Andrew J. Curtis sold land at Humphreys, Tennessee, for $30 to Smallwood Owens, described as "the distributive share of A.J. Curtis and Lucinda Curtis in and to the lands of George Haney, deceased." This is the source of Lucinda's maiden name. Date is written "22 1853."⁵

On 4 July 1853 Andrew J. Curtis purchased land at Humphreys, Tennessee, for $50 from Thomas A. Smith, described as 5 acres "on Blue Creek of Tennessee River. . . on the line of a 50 acre tract of Martha Curtises;" witnessed by Thomas Crafton.⁶

Land Sale*

On 13 September 1853 Andrew J. Curtis sold land at Humphreys, Tennessee, for $50 to John Swift, the same 5 acre tract he purchased in July; witnessed by J. Crockett and B. Parnell.⁷

On 20 March 1856 Andrew J. Curtis sold land at Humphreys, Tennessee, for $100 to T.A. Smith and John Townsend, described as ". . . two undivided interests in a certain tract of land lying on the south prong of Blue Creek of Tennessee River known as the Martha Curtis tract of land, in the state of Tennessee Humphreys Count and District No. 4, containing by estimation sixteen and two-third acres." I believe this means there were six interests in Martha's land, of which A.J. had acquired one, perhaps that of Miner Curtis, deceased.⁸
