He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Lillian Merle Wagener, 1015 North Jefferson Avenue; the father, Fred Wagener, and a brother, Norman Wagener, Mattoon, Ill.2 |

Obit | Robert Eugene's obituary was published in the Marion Chronicle-Tribune on 6 December 2011: Robert E. Wagener, 76, died Friday at home. He was born in Marion on Oct. 1, 1935, to the late Leslie A. and Hazel (Lahr) Wagener. Robert married Margaret F. Boen on May 16, 1958, and she survives. Robert was a 32-year U.S. military veteran, having served in the Marine Corps, the National Guard Reserves and the Indiana Guard Reserves. He worked 20 years in the Marion Police force. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, the Optimist Club and the Toastmaster's Club. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Pacers fan. He enjoyed sign painting and tending to yard work. Above all, Robert enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret F. (Boen) Wagener, Marion; a daughter, Nancy (Steve) Thibeault, Swayzee; four sons, Jeff (Donna) Wagener, Gas City, Mike (Peggy) Wagener, Marion, Tom (Jeannie) Wagener, Lafayette, and Dan (Cheryl) Wagener, Gas City; grandchildren, Matthew, Allison, Josh (fiancée Lendsey Fields), Brandon, Jessica, Jared and Kailey; two sisters, Judy Rowe and Becky Nevil; many nieces and nephews; and close family friend, Sue Autherhults. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie A. and Hazel (Lahr) Wagener. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, with Pastor Gary Bingham officiating. Burial is in Marion National Cemetery.1 |
