PERRY, 65, former prominent citizen of Rochester, died at 10 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred McCLURE, 109 South Maple street, North Manchester. He had been bedfast since July. Mr. Perry, who conducted a law office in the Campbell building in the 800 block on Main street, was forced into retirement because of failing eyesight. He had been totally blind for the past two years. Last April 1, he and Mrs. Perry moved to North Manchester where they made their home with their daughter and her husband. From 1921 to 1930, he was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of this city. As his eyesight began to fail he entered the law business and maintained his offices here until August of the current year. Mr. Perry also served as head of the Fulton County Draft Board throughout World War II. He was born Oct. 8, 1885, in Cadiz, Ohio, to James and Anna E. NORMAN PERRY. On Sept. 8, 1915, he was married to Leora SHIELDS. He was a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio; the McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago; and the Sio Prep School of Ohio. Rev. Perry was ordained in the ministry in 1917 and prior to coming to Rochester held a pastorate at Chalmers, Ind. Mr. Perry was a member of the Rochester Masonic Lodge No. 79; The Knights Templars, Plymouth, and the Rochester O.E.S. in which order he was a past patriarch. He was also a member of the Fulton County Bar Association and the Rochester I.O.O.F. lodge. Survivors are his wife and daughter, Mrs. Marjory (GINTHER) McCLURE, both of North Manchester, and a brother, William E. PERRY, Silver Springs, Md. The body was brought to the Foster funeral home, this city. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Final details for the Daniel S. PERRY burial services were announced today by the Foster Funeral Home. The services are to be held in Presbyterian church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Newton A. PECK, Chicago, and Rev. Donald DECKER, Rochester will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Charles SHERIDAN, Hugh G. McMAHAN, Lon ZIMMERMAN, Estel BEMENDERFER, Robert R. MILLER and Harvey WAYMIRE. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Alf CARTER, Artie MILLER, Dean NEFF, Charles STAHL, John WERNER and Ed FISHBACK. The Rochester Masons will give their final rites at the graveside in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.2 |

Obit | Leora S.'s obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 21 July 1954: Mrs. Leora F. PERRY, 67, former resident of this city, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marjorie McCLURE, North Manchester. Mrs. Perry had been critically ill for three weeks. The Perrys were residents of Rochester for over a score of years. Her husband, the Rev. Daniel S. PERRY, was pastor of the Rochester Presbyterian church for several years. Mrs. Perry came to Rochester from Adena, Ohio, and had made her home with her daughter at North Manchester during the past year and a half. The daughter of Davis and Emaline (HAGAN) SHIELDS, she was married Sept. 8, 1915, to Daniel S. PERRY, who died in February of this year. Survivors are the daughter; three grandchildren, Richard, Elizabeth and Frederick [McCLURE], North Manchester, and one brother, the Rev. R. J. SHIELDS of Uniontown, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Rochester Presbyterian church with Rev. Donald DECKER officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the services. Friends may also call at the Foster funeral home.3 |
