(Witness) BioThis is an article in the Forsyth Co. News on 2/25/1930 by an unknown reporter. The subject of the article was W. C. Fowler's 85th birthday on 2/23/1930.
It has been my privilege to be present upon many delightful occasions and to participate in various and sundry functions of all kinds and classes, but one of the most delightful occasions of my own humble life was on last Sunday, 2/23/1930, when more than 40 kind neighbors and close relatives gathered for the celebration of W. C. Fowler's 85th birthday. To any person who knows Forsyth Co., with her famed reputation for good living and hospitality, it is needless to say that at noontime the crowd gathered before a table loaded with food ... and such food. It was yellow-legged chicken cooked to just the right point, country-fried ham, the odor of which makes you hungry, pies and cakes fit to set before crowned heads, and these ordinarily go with a first class up-to-the-minute picnic dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Fowler have been married 65 years, a record equaled by few couples in Georgia. One of the most interesting things to me in connection with the reminiscences of these charming old people is that they were in a covered wagon traveling for seven days coming from Morganton in Fannin Co., GA when they moved to their present home here in Forsyth Co. They had to cut out a road with snow on the ground to reach the spot where they built their one-room log cabin. This cabin was built from original forest pine; the logs being hewn down to about 6 by 12 inches in size.
Mr. Warren Clinton Fowler and Miss Eliza Jane Curtis were married in the courthouse in Blairsville, Georgia, Union Co., in the year of 1865. They were both reared in the community of Choestoe in Union Co., Georgia. Mrs. Fowler married in a cotton dress, the thread of which she spun with her own hands and was woven into cloth. Mr. Fowler was married in his gray Rebel suit, which he had worn during his service in the Confederate Army."
I, Sara Lucille Fowler Summerford (9/27/1917), am the granddaughter of W. C. and Eliza. My great-great-grandfather, John Gappin, was a missionary to the Indians. His wife was Malinda, a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. John Gappin is buried in the old Choestoe Cemetery.10
CensusWarren Clinton Fowler and Eliza J. Gappin appeared on the census of 4 April 1930 at Cumming District, Forsyth, Georgia, ED 6, sheet 1B, occupation farmer, owned farm, radio, 1 daughter at home.11
