(Witness) Bio | Emily “Lou” was born September 19, 1874 in Montgomery County, Alabama. She was a sister of Nancy Eldora (Qualls) Curtis, who was James Grant Curtis’ wife. A letter from her daughter, Emily (Curtis) Ralph said “Mama was a practical nurse. She nursed with Dr. Pettit of Chehalis, and he said he would rather have her than any R.N., especially on baby cases. She helped deliver most of the neighborhood children near Adna. Some she delivered alone in emergency. She was called on when there were accidents, broken bones, food poison cases, etc. After John Curtis died, Emily married a Mr. Lee. She died January 12, 1957 at Adna, Washington, age 83.”.3 |
