Catherine Cunningham and Christine Brabson and three step grandchildren. He retired from the Otto Post Office as postmaster; was a member of Gideons International; vice president of WNC A.B.C; former president of Otto Community Development: coached Little League, refereed football games: 911 interim director for two years: chief deputy sheriff: Sunday school superintendent: former adult Sunday school teacher; chairman of Coweeta Baptist Church trustees; active in the church choir; and member of Boundary Hunting Club for 28 years. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Ruby Belcher Curtis; one son; Keith Curtis and wife, Lisa. of Otto; three daughters. Denise Southard and husband, Steve, of Franklin; Glenda Loose and husband. Cliff, of Otto; Sheila McClure and husband. Richard of Franklin: one stepson. Lawrence Lowery of Mountain Rest, S.C; one stepdaughter, Ruth Martin of Athens, Tenn.: four brothers, Verlin Curtis of Franklin. Jimmy Curtis of Simpsonville, S.C; Charles Curtis Jr. of Franklin and Willie Curtis of Berea, Ky; four sisters, Elsie Brendle and Judy Carpenter of Franklin, Barbara Bradley of Otto, and Polly Lovell of Groveland. Fla; seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren: eight step great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday. May 8, in the chapel of-Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Davis Hooper officiated. Burial was in the Coweeta Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108. Pallbearers were Tony Curtis, Tommy Curtis, Mike Bradley, Dale Curtis. John L. Shearl and Tommy Bennett. The members of the Boundary Hunting Club were honorary pallbearers.4 |

He was born in Otto, NC to the late Charles Sutton and Minnie Leona McCall Curtis. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 30 years of service as a research project leader. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, a pilot and he loved to work with wood. Mr. Curtis received his B.S. degree from North Carolina State and his master's degree from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Brabson and Catherine Cunningham; and one brother, Claude Curtis. Mr. Curtis is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Curtis of Berea; his daughter, Susan (Calvin) Vaughn of Lancaster, KY; his son, Larry (Kay) Curtis of Murfreesboro, TN; his sisters, Polly (Lewis) Lovell of Elizabeth City, NC, Judy Carpenter of Franklin, NC, Barbara Bradley of Franklin, NC, and Elsie Brendle of Franklin, NC; his brothers, Charles (Edna) Curtis of Franklin, NC, Verlin (Marvel) Curtis of Franklin, NC, and Jimmy (Tommie) Curtis of Simpsonville, SC; and three grandchildren, Karen Curtis, Sarah Vaughn and Haley Vaughn. A memorial service for Mr. Curtis will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 9, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Duane Corle officiating.
