She was born Oct. 17, 1916, in Clarke County to Thomas Lafayette and Julia Ruth Shackleford Dial. She was a lifelong Athens resident. She was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church and Sunset Garden Club. She was an avid gardener and bridge player. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Roy W. Curtis; and a daughter, Beckie Curtis Davis. Survivors include: three daughters, Julie Curtis Irby of Elberton, Roycelynn Curtis Williams of Tiger and Ruthie Curtis Hubbard of Columbus; a nephew, James V. Stephens of Greenville, N.C; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Athens First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Grady Wigley officiating. A private burial followed at Oconee Hill Cemetery. Lord and Stephens West in Bogart was in charge of arrangements.4 |

Curtis of Waynesville; a daughter, Helen Curtis Absher of Roanoke, Va; two brothers, Edward Curtis and Kent Lee Curtis, both of Waynesville; two sisters, Linda Rider of Canton and Pauline Hendricks of Waynesville; and two grandchildren.2 |
