Robert Brabson Curtis, Sr., 86, of Demorest, Ga., died Wednesday, February 9, in Fayetteville, N.C. Funeral services were held Friday, February 11, at the McGahee Funeral Home Chapel in Cornelia, Ga. Burial was in the Union Methodist Church Cemetery. A native of Franklin, he was the son of the late Moses Hightower Curtis and the late Julie Garland Curtis. He was a member of the Union Methodist Church.
Survivors include the widow, Minnie Saunders Curtis; two sons, Robert B. Curtis, Jr., of Fayetteville and Lawrence D. Curtis of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Purdy Faircloth of Fayetteville, Mrs. John Grist of Dillard, Ga., and Mrs. George Burroughs of Winchester, Va.11

Funeral services were conducted here this afternoon for Edward H. Curtis, 56, a resident near Petersburg for the past 28 years, who died at the hospital here Thursday night following an illness of two months. Rev. Ollie Apple, pastor of the Petersburg Methodist Church, officiated in services held at 3 o’clock at the Roy Wood Funeral chapel.
Born in McLennan County October 24, 1882, Mrs. Curtis resided in that county until 1905 when he moved to Stamford. In 1906 he was married to Mrs. Lillian Burch at Haskell. In 1910 the family moved to Petersburg, where they have resided since. He had been a member of the Baptist church since young manhood.
Survivors are his wife and four sons, Harvey, Cecil and Glen Curtis, all of Petersburg, and Carl Curtis, Mission; three daughters, Mrs. T.H. White, San Jose, Calif; Miss Margaret Curtis, Plainview, and Miss Frances Curtis, Petersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Jim Russell, Russellville, Georgia, and Mrs. T.H. Adams, Fort Worth; three brothers, H.V. Curtis, San Antonio; J.M. Curtis, Fort Worth, and C.L. Curtis, Weed, N.M. Seven grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Lillian Amanda Curtis, 76, of Rt. 1 Petersburg, died at 10:12 p.m. Thursday in Plainview Nursing Home. Mrs. Curtis had lived most of her life on a farm near Petersburg where she and her husband, the late E.H. Curtis, settled in 1909. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Ollie Apple assisted by Rev. Elton Wyatt, pastor, and Jim Reynolds, minister of Petersburg Church of Christ officiating. Burial wa in Odd Fellows Cemetery at Plainview, with Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview in charge of arrangements.
Born July 11, 1889 in Bell County, Mrs. Curtis was married Dec. 9, 1906 in Haskell County, from where the family moved to Petersburg. Mr. Curtis preceded her in death in 1939. Mrs. Curtis had lived on the family farm near a son, Glenn Curtis, until entering the nursing home at Plainview. She had been in ill health several years. Mrs. Curtis was a member of First Methodist Church. Also surviving are three other sons, Harvey Curtis of Norwood, Mo., Cecil Curtis of Springlake and Carroll Curtis of Mission; three daughters, Mrs. Ed Kirk of Napa, Calif., Mrs. Elmer Mayfield of Ventura, Calif., and Mrs. Louis Bogy of San Antonio; a sister, Mrs. Quincy Gibson of Charlotte, NC; 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.5

Mr. Curtis died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, in McKee Hospice Care Center in Loveland, Colo. He was born March 17, 1924, in Hale County, the son of Edward Hoyle and Lillian Burch Curtis. He graduated from Petersburg High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer and rancher. He served on boards of the Petersburg School District, Petersburg Library, Co-op Grain, Farm Bureau and Cotton Compress. He was a Hospice volunteer, AARP Safety Driving instructor and a 4-H leader. He served as adjutant for the American Legion Post 187 in Petersburg and was a member of the Senior Citizens. He was Methodist and also attended Main Street Church of Christ with his wife. He and his wife, Vivian Lee, were recognized several times for community contributions including Farm Bureau Family of the Year and Mr. and Mrs. Petersburg. Survivors include his wife of 56 years; a daughter, Connie Curtis Bayless of Castle Rock, Colo; a son, Hoyle Curtis of Loveland, Colo; a sister, Frances Bogy of San Antonio; and a grandson, Christopher Curtis of Loveland.3
