Survivors include two sons, John Curtis of Blairsville, Ga., and James Curtis of Flint, Mich; six daughters, Leona Roper and Opal Burgess of Morganton, Lorene Clark of Wayne, W. Va., Sue Henson of Valdese, Ila Lee Carswell of Flint and Johnsie Nelson of Tapoco; 35 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted by the Revs. Bob Deviney and Ronald Henson at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jonas Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will be in Jonas Ridge Cemetery.2

A celebration of Mrs. Coffey’s life will be held at Faith Baptist Church on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor James Hicks officiating. James “Jim” Thomas Curtis, Jr., age 83 resident of Shelby, NC passed away peacefully on December 21, 2016 at Wendover Hospice, Shelby, NC. He was born in Avery Co., NC to the late James Thomas Curtis and Johnsie Clark Curtis. He was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. Jim was former owner/operator of a roofing company in Flint, Michigan and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a wonderful and loving man who treated everyone the same. He loved and respected all people and everyone who knew him, loved him. Special thanks to everyone who assisted in Jim’s care, especially Jeff Brayboy.
