Carl Curtis of Willard, Mo., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and son-in-law Gary Drennen. He will be missed by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Virginia; brothers, Luke and wife, Ruth, Cloyd and wife, Betty, Ralph and wife, Louise; children, Len Curtis, Pam Drennen, Steve Curtis and wife Robin, and Lorri Smith; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and an abundance of family and friends. Carl was a member of Hillside Baptist Church in Springfield. He had a rich history, including service in the Navy during World War II and a career in construction, but his most important and favorite job was as a husband, father and grandfather. Carl's wisdom, strength, dignity and humor will be cherished by all who knew him. A memorial to celebrate the life of Carl Curtis will be held Monday, July 16, 10 a.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home South, officiated by Pastor Cecil Tolbert. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the service begins. Interment will be immediately following in Brookline cemetery.

Morganton: Luther Ray Curtis, 92, of Morganton, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Mr. Curtis was born June 21, 1920, in Burke County, to the late Walter Washington Curtis and Della Bentley Curtis. He was retired from Waldensian Bakery and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Mr. Curtis enjoyed gardening, and had a magnificent dahlia garden at his home in Jonas Ridge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Small Curtis; son, Jerry Allen Curtis; brothers, Carl, Loyd and baby brother, John, Howard and Rev. Ernest Curtis; sisters, Rowena Mull and Ruth Carswell; half-brothers, Dean and Buford Curtis; half-sister, Mae Ferguson and step-brother, Rev. Darwin Lingerfelt. Mr. Curtis is survived by his daughter, Gloria Curtis Jernigan, of Hudson; granddaughter, Vicki Elizabeth Haigler and husband, David, of Hudson; brothers, Ralph Curtis and wife, Louise, and Cloyd Curtis and wife, Betty, both of Morganton;half-brothers, Bob and Reba Curtis, of Banner Elk, Clyde Curtis and Ray Curtis, of Morganton, and Charles and Margaret Curtis, of Greensboro; half-sister, Pat and Larry Huntley, of Fort Mill, S.C;stepbrother, Tommy and wife, Glenda Lingerfelt;and step-sisters, Ruby and Frank Wood, and Gladys Chapman, all of Morganton; numerous nieces and nephews, and his caregivers, Virginia Lowman, Amanda Stacy and Ann Pendley. Mr. Finley Curtis Bolick, age 86, of Old Highway 60, Millers Creek, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Avante at Wilkesboro.
Mr. Bolick was born September 24, 1917, in Caldwell County to Jacob Eli and Mary Curtis Bolick. He was a member of Arbor Grove United Methodist Church and a US Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Belva Berenis Pierce Bolick of the home; one son, Joey Pierce Bolick of Millers Creek; one brother, Bill Bolick of Yadkinville; one sister, Julia Gragg of Collettsville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 30, at Arbor Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jenny Stewart and Gary Benesh officiating. Burial with military rites by the VFW Post 1142 was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Arbor Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 1984 Arbor Grove Church Road, Purlear, NC 28665.
Miller Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.2
