He was a farmer with a county store, across the road from home on Big Springs [sic] Ridge Road, Union Grove Community, between Friendsville and Maryville, TN. He had the family farm on the waters of Gallaher's Creek, atop a ridge overlooking the valley. He received it through transfer of interest of his father's heirs in 1845. He died on 30 Jul 1907 of chronic bronchitis; he had been ill 45 days. He died at daughter Harriet's home in Knoxville, Knox county. Made a claim with his brother Meredith Alexander LANE with the Southern Claims Commission, 1871-1880, for Civil War Damage.⁴
