Mrs. Curtis was born Hillsboro, Texas, to the late John Allen and Ila Mae (Howell) Birdwell. She was a life long resident of Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School. She worked at Sears in Hillsboro for many years before working at the Hill County Tax Office for 14 years. She married Billy R. Curtis and he preceded her in death in October of 1968. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved to crochet and was an avid reader. Anybody who knew her loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in October of 1968; brothers, Kenneth, John, and Bob Birdwell; and a sister, Barbara Buck.
Survivors include sons, Dean Boyd and wife, Marie, of Mabank and Randy Curtis and wife, Becky, of Glen Rose; daughter, Kim Wise and husband, Russ, of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Dean Boyd Jr., Bryn Curtis and husband, John, Kelly Jo Divin and husband, Joshua, and Colin Wise; and great-grandchildren, Judd and Colton Curtis.

Rose was born in Monticello, Ark. to the late Thomas Marion and Dora (Presley) Lance. At the age of four, she moved with her family to Hillsboro, Texas. She was a graduate of the Seton School of Nursing in Austin. On June 1, 1941 she married Walter Curtis Sr. She lived in Waco from 1943 until moving to Tyler in 2000. While living in Waco, she was an RN and medical secretary at Providence Hospital. She was a member of the Seton School of Nursing Alumni, First Baptist Church in Tyler, and formerly a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
She was preceded her in death by her husband on Dec. 26, 1988; a stepson, Walter Elmer Curtis Jr; brother, Mark Lance; and sister, Ruth Zimmerman.
Survivors include her son, Thomas H. Curtis and wife, Carla, of Tyler; stepson, John E. Curtis, of Houston; grandchildren, Walt, Matt and Rebecca Curtis; great-grandchildren, Ian, Matilyn and Cameron Curtis; and nephew, Lance Zimmerman.1 |
