A native of Arapaho, Okla., Buchenau came to San Bernardino in 1924 and is a graduate of San Bernardino High School. Colleges attended by Buchenau include Riverside, Arizona State at Flagstaff and Valley College. AS Buchenau says, “It wouild seem that I was either working in between school or going to school in between working. Buchenau has also attended the former Longmire Business School in San Bernardino.
Hobbies that Buchenau enjoys are hunting and fishing, but as he phrases it, “I won’t eat the fish, I just give them away.” AS Junior Steward in Lodge 348, F&AM, Buchenaui is active in community activities. He and his wife Ruth and daughter Ann Catherine, 11, live at 3279 Mt. View Ave.2

Survivors include the widow and daughter; his mother, Mrs. Frances A. Buchenau, San Bernardino, two brothers, Robert L., Cucamonga, and Maj. William S. Buchenau, Novato; and a sister, Mrs. Herbert L. Sisk, Twentynine Palms. Interment will be in Montecito Memorial Park.2

Note* Back from Europe where he served as a lead bombardier with the Eighth Air Force, Capt. William S. Buchenau has reported to Harvard University after a leave at home with his family. His wife, Anna Mae, resides with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C>G> Miller, 3196 D Street, and his parents, Mrs. And Mrs. J.H. Buchenau, make their home at 2171 Leroy Street. Captain Buchenau received his training and commission at Victorville and Santa Ana Army Air bases, and his first assignment was with the Army submarine patrol on the east coast. He was went overseas in March of 1944 and served on many heavy bombing missions over France and Germany. For meritorious achievement he was awarded the Air Medal, with four Oak Leaf clusters, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He has two brothers and a sister in the armed forces. They are John H. Buchenau Jr., yeoman 2/c, on duty in the Pacific with the Navy; First Lt. R.L. Buchenau, liaison pilot on duty with the field artillery in the Pacific combat zone, and Sgt. Gertrude Buchenau of the Wacs, stationed at Camp Hucksty in Egypt.6
