Mr. Curtis was a veteran of the U.S. Army and he attended Valmead Community Church where he enjoyed serving the Lord by playing his guitar with the Curtis Band. He was a licensed electrician for more than 50 years and he enjoyed his hobbies of building a grist mill and working with his saw mill and steam engines.
Other than his wife and father, he is survived by his daughter, Amy Curtis of Fuquay-Varina; brothers and sisters, Bobby and Peggy Curtis of Chardon, OH; Mary Ann Absher of Lenoir; Richard and Theresa Curtis of Warsaw, KY; Linda and Hayden Durham of Roaring River; Tony and Debbie Curtis of Granite Falls; Sarah Curtis of Lenoir; Brenda Diane Couch of Lenoir; Dan Curtis of New Braunfels, TX; Kevin and Annette Curtis of Thompson, OH; and Paul Curtis of Corpus Christi,TX; 27 nieces and nephews; and special friend Ronnie Greene and special nephew Jeff Curtis. Burial at the Curtis Family Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. |

Stan returned home to Alaska, worked on the trans-Alaska pipeline and went on to create the Fairbanks Youth Theater. He then started his family, living in Fairbanks, Glennallen and settling in Eagle River in 1992. He worked for Wilder Construction 1988-2005 and with Alaska Interstate Construction LLC since 2005. Stan devoted much of his life to the sport of wrestling, both as a wrestler throughout high school and college and then as head coach of the Chugiak Wrestling Club. Stan also brought the Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Assn. to Alaska to bring wider access to the sports for more kids. Stan's family said, "He was a respected, caring member of the community and especially loved to encourage, mentor and inspire kids. He was a father figure to many other than his own." Stan is survived by his children, Adam, Stanley, Hailey and Wyatt; and their mother, Michelle Laakso; brothers, Gary and David Brown; sisters, Pat Williams, Stephanie King and Amy Rhodes; and long-time companion, Cheryl Sanders. He also leaves many friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Wanda Brown, and oldest brother, James Brown.
