Granite Falls – Mr. Johnny L. Curtis, age 72, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in Fuquay-Varina, NC. Mr. Curtis was born in Caldwell County on April 15, 1943 to the Reverend Robert Curtis and the late Mary Fox Curtis. He was married to Joyce Crotts Curtis for 50 years. Mr. Curtis was a veteran of the U.S. Army and he attended Valmead Community Church where he enjoyed serving the Lord by playing his guitar with the Curtis Band. He was a licensed electrician for more than 50 years and he enjoyed his hobbies of building a grist mill and working with his saw mill and steam engines.


Other than his wife and father, he is survived by his daughter, Amy Curtis of Fuquay-Varina; brothers and sisters, Bobby and Peggy Curtis of Chardon, OH; Mary Ann Absher of Lenoir; Richard and Theresa Curtis of Warsaw, KY; Linda and Hayden Durham of Roaring River; Tony and Debbie Curtis of Granite Falls; Sarah Curtis of Lenoir; Brenda Diane Couch of Lenoir; Dan Curtis of New Braunfels, TX; Kevin and Annette Curtis of Thompson, OH; and Paul Curtis of Corpus Christi,TX; 27 nieces and nephews; and special friend Ronnie Greene and special nephew Jeff Curtis. Burial at the Curtis Family Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Anchorage resident James Ervin Brown, 61, died Aug. 16, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Services will be from 1 to 4 p.m. today in the west lounge of the Pioneer Assisted Living Home. Mr. Brown was born Dec. 16, 1944, in South Gate, Calif. He moved to Alaska in 1945, living in Fairbanks, Paxson and Anchorage. Mr. Brown was employed at Advanced Information Management. His special interests included photography and genealogy.
His family said: "Jim Brown was an affectionate man defined by his kindness, his love for his family and friends, and his dedication to being a hard worker and a man of his word. A true Alaskan, Jim captured the beauty of the country he loved in his photography and leaves those pictures behind -- along with our memories of his gentleness and warm sense of humor. His passing will leave a void in many lives. ... Jim Brown will be missed by all of us."
Mr. Brown is survived by his sons, Matthew Brown and Nicholas Brown; parents, Stanley and Wanda Brown; sisters, Stephanie King, Amy Rhodes and Pat Williams; and brothers, Stanley Brown Jr., David Brown and Gary Brown. Local arrangements were by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary and Crematory.3

ObitStanley David's obituary was published in the Anchorage Daily News on 21 November 2007:
Eagle River resident Stan D. Brown, 50, died Nov. 17, 2007, at Providence Alaska Medical Center of a heart attack. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chugiak High School, with Rev. Marcia Wakeland presiding. A celebration of Stan's life will be after the service at the Lions Club in Eagle River. Stan was born April 2, 1957, in Fairbanks during territorial days to Stanley and Wanda Brown. He spent summers at the family-owned lodge in Paxson. After high school, Stan attended Arizona State University and graduated with a degree in theater. Stan returned home to Alaska, worked on the trans-Alaska pipeline and went on to create the Fairbanks Youth Theater. He then started his family, living in Fairbanks, Glennallen and settling in Eagle River in 1992. He worked for Wilder Construction 1988-2005 and with Alaska Interstate Construction LLC since 2005.
Stan devoted much of his life to the sport of wrestling, both as a wrestler throughout high school and college and then as head coach of the Chugiak Wrestling Club. Stan also brought the Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Assn. to Alaska to bring wider access to the sports for more kids. Stan's family said, "He was a respected, caring member of the community and especially loved to encourage, mentor and inspire kids. He was a father figure to many other than his own."
Stan is survived by his children, Adam, Stanley, Hailey and Wyatt; and their mother, Michelle Laakso; brothers, Gary and David Brown; sisters, Pat Williams, Stephanie King and Amy Rhodes; and long-time companion, Cheryl Sanders. He also leaves many friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stan and Wanda Brown, and oldest brother, James Brown. Memorials may be made in his name to Alaska South Central Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading Assn., P.O. Box 773625, Eagle River 99577.1
