Obit | Edwin B.'s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 13 November 1967: New Lexington -- Edwin Newman, 72, of Columbus died at 7:30 p.m. Monday (Nov. 13) at a Columbus hospital following several days' illness of phenmonia. He was born June 19, 1892 [sic] at Columbus, a son of the late Frank and Carrie Fields Newman. He had lived his entire life in the Columbus area. Mrs. Newman was a retired farmer and a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Howerth of New Lexington and Mrs. Florence Young of Muleshoe, Tex. Friends may call at Roberts Funeral Home at New Lexington after 6 p.m. today. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funerla home with Rev. Oren D. Schaffer officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Columbus. [Note; the dob appears to be a type, since his age makes the year 1895. No explanation for him being a retired farmer because the only Edwin Newman found in the census always was a resident of the state hospital, and also in his SSDI record. It also appears odd that he was buried in Columbus, rather than New Lexington with the rest of his family.]9 |

Henry Allbee1

Death | Henry Allbee died on 29 December 1940 at Sabetha, Nemaha, Kansas, at age 70; buried at the Sabetha Cemetery. |
Obit* | Henry's obituary was published in the The Courier-Tribune on 2 January 1941: Sabetha - Henry Allbee Henry Allbee was born at La Crosse, Wis., October 29, 1870 and departed this life at Sabetha, December 29, 1940. With his parents he came to Nemaha county, Kns., in 1880. The family home was established on a farm ten miles northwest of Sabetha where he lived until a grown man. September 12, 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Leah Rossier. They immediately established their home in Bern, where they continued to live until 1924. To this union were born two children, neither of whom was spared beyond the days of infancy. Following this loss three homeless boys were brought into the home, where they were cared for and reared as their own. Two of them have preceded Mr. Allbee in death. One Frances L. Beach, lives at Hillsboro, Oregon and through the years has been as a son to Mr. and Mrs. Allbee. To all who have known Henry Allbee it is necessary only to say he was an upright and honorable man of sterling character. To know him carried its own proof concerning the truth of those words. From early youth he was an earnest, consecrated Christian man. For a number of his young years he was a member of the Seven Day Adventist church. A few years following his marriage he, together with Mrs. Allbee, united with the Presbyterian church at Bern. Soon after becoming a member of the church he was ordained a Ruling Elder of the church, and for 25 continuous years served in that office. During this period he was also Sunday school superintendent for a good part of the time. In 1924 Mr. and Mrs. Allbee bought a farm seven miles northeast of Sabetha, where they lived until the spring of 1940. At that time Mr. Allbee's failing health compelled him to give up the arduous work of the farm, and they established their home in town. When they moved to the home northeast of Sabetha in 1924 Mr. and Mrs. Allbee transferred their church membership to the First Congregational church of Sabetha, where they have been among the most devoted and loyal members of this church during these nearly 16 years. Mr. Albee is survived by his wife; one sister, Mrs. May Love of Braman, Okla; one half sister, Mrs. Jannie Perkins of Cambridge, Neb; one half brother, William Allbee of Littlefield, Maryland; and one half brother, O.S. Runyon of South Haven, Kns. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the First Congregational church, Tuesday, December 31, at 2:30 p.m. conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.L. Baker. Mrs. Byron Robinson sang two songs "Hold Thou My Hands" and "Shadows." Cedric Moorhead, in the absence of the regular organist, Miss Marian Spencer, was accompanist. Pall bearers were members of Mrs. Allbee's Sunday school class: Garnett [Nines], [Will] Palmer, Howard Miller, DeWitt Wurzbacher. The Courier-Tribune, Seneca, Kansas, Thursday, January 2, 1941. |
