Arthur F. BRUBAKER, 67, 330 Jefferson street, died at 1:15 p.m. Friday in Canterbury Manor nursing home. He had been ill for 1 1/2 years. He was born Dec. 9, 1910 in Rochester to Claude J. and Vada May ZINK BRUBAKER, Sr., and had resided all his life in this area. He was married Dec. 2, 1939 in Logansport to Thelma E. DeWALD, who survives. He retired in 1976 as plant superintendent of the Rochester Telephone company, where he had been employed for 36 years. He was a member of the Rochester American Legion post and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Linda) SMITH, Washington, Ind., and Mrs. Max (Ann) HOLLOWAY, Rochester; a son, James E. [BRUBAKER], Rochester;
five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Fred (Henrietta) FERGUSON, Rochester; a brother, Claude BRUBAKER, Jr., Rochester, and nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were the parents and a sister. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Foster & Good funeral home with the Rev. Maurice HOWELL officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Monday. The Rochester American Legion will conduct military graveside rites. Memorials other than flowers may be made to the American Heart association.3

Claude BRUBAKER Jr., 84, 1725 Colonial Drive, died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at Life Care Center, Rochester. Born near Rochester, to Claude J. and Vada May ZINK BRUBAKER, he married Catherine BEMENDERFER Nov. 15, 1941, in Rochester. She survives.
Mr. Brubaker, a lifetime Rochester resident, spent winters in Florida. He and Richard Miller owned and operated Fansler Lumber Co., Rochester, from 1945 to 1981. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Elks Lodge 2120. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He enjoyed golf and bowling. Surviving with his wife, at home, are one daughter, Cathy WILKINSON and husband Gary, Carmel; four grandchildren, Brian WILKINSON and wife Jennie, Fishers, Scott WILKINSON and wife Kim, Virginia, and twins Katie and Kyle WILKINSON, Carmel; four great-grandchildren, Alec, Christopher, Luke and Madeline WILKINSON; one sister, Henrietta FERGUSON, Omaha, Neb; several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were his parents, infant son, Phillip [BRUBAKER], one brother, Arthur [BRUBAKER, and one sister, Evelyn [BRUBAKER PYLE]. Services are at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with Rev. Phil LAKE officiating. Burial will be at Rochester IOOF Cemetery. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion will conduct military rites. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services.4

She was stricken July 14. The deceased was born June 14, 1894 at Huntington and was the daughter of I. N. and Susie (DENNIS) DARR. She had lived near Rochester since she was 11 years old, most of the time in the McKinley neighborhood east of the city. In a ceremony performed at Crawfordsville, September 28, 1938, she was married to Claude BRUBAKER. lMrs. Brubaker was a member of the Rochester Methodist church and the Pythian Sisters chapter of this city. Mrs. Brubaker was widely known in Fulton county where she was active in church, social, civic, political and business circles. She was prominent in Farm Bureau work and for a number of years operated a dairy and poultry farm east of this city where she was also the agent for a chicken hatchery. Survivors are the husband at home, two daughters, Mrs. Mildred [BARKMAN] ROBBINS, Huntington and Mrs. Frances [BARKMAN] VanDEREN of Rochester; parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. N. DARR, Rochester; four step-children, Evelyn [BRUBAKER] and Arthur BRUBAKER, Rochester; Claude BRUBAKER, Jr., and Mrs. Harriett FERGUSON of Chicago, Ill, and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be held from the Brubaker farm home north of the city at 2:30 p.m. Thursday with Mrs. Robert ROSS-SHANNON officiating. Burial will be made in the Rochester Odd Fellows cemetery. Friends may view the remains at the Brubaker residence from 7:30 p.m. Tuesday until the hour of the last rites. [NOTE: The above obituary fails to include the deceased’s first marriage, on October 5, 1911, to Vernon H. BARKMAN. -- W.C.T.]1

H.F. Curtis, Life Resident, Dies, Son of Pioneers, 86, Taken at Place of Birth. Horace Franklin Curtis, aged 86, retired farmer and lifelong resident of the community died of heart trouble at 9:20 a.m. Sunday in his home, two miles south of Osceola, this county. He had been ill three days. Mr. Curtis was born and died in the same house, which was built by his parents shortly after they came here in 1831 from Dayton, Ohio.
Mr. Curtis was born Sept. 25, 1852. He was married March 28, 1878, in this city, to Miss Amelia M. Dodge, who died Aug. 17, 1910. Surviving are a son, Ralph Curtis, Santa Monica, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. Goldie Jennings, Wayne, Mich., and Mrs. Nellie Hoffman, at home; a grandson, Thomas Franklin Curtis, Elkhart, Ind; a granddaughter, Betty Jane Curtis, Santa Monica; and a nephew, Charles M. Curtis, Osceola. Friends will be received in the residence until the funeral, to be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. William Menaugh will conduct services in the home and burial will be in Noffsinger Cemetery, southeast of Osceola.11
