Al Curtis, of Hastings, Neb., whose serious illness we have from time to time noted of late, died on Sunday morning last at his home in that city, after long and painful suffering with cancer of the stomach. The deceased was well known here having been born and raised on the old Curtis homestead east of town. He was a brother Alex, David, Ed and Frank Curtis, and Mrs. Alex Darr, of South Bend. He leaves a wife, who was a daughter of Andrew Rupel of Elkhart County, and two children, together with many friends to mourn his loss. For the past twelve years or more, Al has resided in Hastings, where he was a prominent citizen, and had prospered finely. His untimely taking off will be deeply regretted there as well as here. He was a brave soldier during the war for the Union, having served in Co. F. 48th Indiana. Died May 24, 1890.9

David L. Curtis, aged 70 years, of 908 S. Michigan Street, died yesterday, death being due to paralysis. He leaves his widow, Susan, a sister, Mrs. Alex Darr, of South Bed, and a brother H. Frank Curtis, of Osceola, Ind. The deceased was born in St. Joseph County June 15, 1844, and has lived in the locality practically all his life. He was for several years at Jacksonville, Ore. He was married to Susan Patterson, Sept. 19, 1868 [1867]. Mr. Curtis, who was in the grocery business most of his life, was also an inventor and had secured a number of patents, some of which are still pending. He was at one time prominently identified with the Masons and the Knights Templar. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock from the Baugo Baptist Church of Osceola. Rev. Mr. Lovelace, of Osceola, will officiate.10
(Witness) BioDavid took his inheritance from his father in the form of $3,000 cash and engaged in various enterprises. At one time he was manager of a grocery and bakery Grandpa had built in Mishawaka. He was quite successful until the fire in Mishawaka in 1872 when everything on his side of the street burned. When Grandpa and Grandma arrived the next morning, they found a notice on the site of the building saying "moved on account of the intense heat." (There was no insurance on it.) His inventive mind led him into all kinds of situations and in 1879 he and his family moved to Oregon where he lived until 1890, when they came back here and engaged in the grocery business.2

ObitHarold R.'s obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 6 November 1930:

Harold THRUSH, 37, of 236 Lewis Street, Hammond, a former resident of this city was asphyxiated by carbon monoxide gas last night in the garage at the rear of his home in Hammond, his mother Mrs. Ellen THRUSH, 908 Franklin Avenue, was informed in a telephone message which she received about 11 p.m. Tuesday. In the telephone message Mrs. Thrush said she found her husband in the garage shortly after 9:30 o’clock. Mr. Thrush had left the engine of his car running while he closed the doors to the
garage. The carburetor on the car had been changed yesterday by Mr. Thrush so that the supply of gasoline was increased for winter driving. The supply of gasoline was too rich and in the small garage, Mr. Thrush was overcome by the deadly carbon monoxide gas fumes before he could reach the door leading into the back yard of the Thrush home. Thrush had tried valiently to make the door leading to the yard but was overcome just a few feet before he had reached the door. Mrs. Thrush noticed the lights of her husband’s car burning in the garage when she happened to look out through the back window of their home. When she went to investigate she found her husband unconscious. She dragged him out of the garage and then called for help. Doctors were summoned but were unsuccessful in their attempts to revive Thrush. It is thought he had been in the garage only a few minutes before he was found by his wife. Harold Thrush was born in this city on August 8, 1893 the son of Napoleon and Mary THRUSH. He was educated in the public schools of Rochester and after completing his schooling learned the butcher trade which profession he followed up until his death. The deceased resided in this city until eight years ago when he moved to Hammond after accepting a position as a meat cutter in a large butcher shop in Hammond. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Eagles and Moose lodges transferring his membership from lodges of the above named orders in this city to ones in Hammond several years ago. Survivors are the widow who was Goldie BRUBAKER whom he married in this city on August 13, 1912, a son Edward [THRUSH], mother, three brothers, Rufus [THRUSH] of this city, James [THRUSH] of Hammond, and Ralph [THRUSH] of Whiting and three sisters, Mrs. Edward PALUS of Marion, Ohio, Mrs. Lou HUNT and Mrs. Maude SCHREYER of this city. No funeral arrangements had been made up until press time today but it is presumed that the body will be returned to this city for burial probably Saturday.5
