Obit | Sarah Louise's obituary was published in the Courier-Tribune on 22 July 1945: Mrs. Sarah Cole Curtis, wife of Numa R. Curtis of Ramseur, died in the Wesley Long hospital, Greensboro, Saturday morning after ill health for eight years and seriously ill for the past few months. Mrs. Curtis, a daughter of the late James Edwin and Judith Elfleta Watkins Cole, was born and spent her entire life in Ramseur. After the death of her parents, she made her home with her grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Watkins, Sr., of Ramseur. She was educated at Salem Academy, Winston-Salem, Greensboro College, and Davenport College, Lenoir. Mrs. Curtis was chairman of the board of directors of the Columbia Manufacturing Company, Ramseur, a member of the Ramseur Methodist church and took an active interest in civic work. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Miss Elfleta Curtis, Mrs. W.H. Eastwood, Jr. and Miss Mary Jane Curtis, all of the home; one son, Seaman Numa R. Curtis, Jr., U.S. Navy, stationed on Guam; one grandchild; three half-sisters, Mrs. T.P. Williamson of Greensboro; Mrs. Paul Whitehead of Reidsville; and Mrs. J.L. Bailey, of San Fernando, Calif. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Ramseur Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. J.T. Shackford, in charge. Interment will be made in Sunset Knoll Cemetery, Ramseur.7 |
