Obit | Victor Martin's obituary was published in the Chattanooga Times-Free Press on 1 September 2001: McDonald. Victor Martin Herod, 72, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in a local health care facility. He was a longtime resident of McDonald and attended Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church. Mr. Herod was retired from Ernest Holmes and Century Wrecker Cos., where he had been a supervisor. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Herod was a Technician 5th Grade attached to Battery B of the 272nd Field Artillery Battalion and saw action in the campaigns of northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Survivors include wife, Pat Herod, daughter, Anita Sherlin and son-in-law, Steve Sherlin, Knoxville, Tenn; brothers, Vernon Herod, Collegedale, Edward Herod, Trenton, Ga., Jerry and Gene Herod, both of Chattanooga, sisters, Mildred Gilreath, Chattanooga, Ann Travis, Cleveland, Tenn., Margaret Fleming, Tucson, Ariz; granddaughter, Cyndi Dodson, Knoxville; great-granddaughters, Taylor Dodson and McKenzie Dodson. Interment will be Tuesday in Chattanooga National cemetery.3 |
