Obit | Candacy's obituary was published in the Unknown Newspaper on 20 March 1953: Mrs. Candacy Curtis, who died Thursday evening in New Castle after a lingering illness, will be returned to Morgan County, her former home, for burial Saturday. Funeral services will be held at the Main Funeral Home in New Castle Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, with burial scheduled to follow near 2 o’clock at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Jefferson Township. Formerly Candacy Stiles, she was born in Jefferson Township in May 1869 and was the daughter of Stokely and Nellie Secrest Stiles. She continued to make her home in this community until about thirty years ago when she went to New Castle. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was first married to Albert Bishop, and following his death was later married to Cal Curtis, who also died a few years ago. Surviving her are three daughters and a son, Mrs. Harry Williams and Mrs. Royal Bailey of New Castle, Mrs. Frank Bryan of Muncie, and Herman D. Bishop of Indianapolis.2 |
