She was born on Dec. 1, 1921, to Benjamin and Katie (Northern) Fishel in Martinsville. She married E. Eugene Curtis on Dec. 17, 1944. He died Sept. 5, 1999. Mildred was owner of Personality Catering from the mid-1950s until the early 1990s. Prior to that, she worked at J.J. Newberry's and A.A.A., both in Martinsville.She enjoyed baking and quilting. Mildred won numerous awards at the Morgan County Fair and the State Fair for her baking and quilting entries. After retiring, she entered several beef cook-offs and traveled throughout the southeast United States participating in these contests. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Martinsville.
Survivors include one son, Larry Curtis and wife Sue of Martinsville; two granddaughters, Lesli Golden and husband Bryan, and Kim Williams and husband Pete; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Golden; and two great-grandsons, Tyler Golden and Curtis P. Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband; father; mother; two brothers, Harry J. Fishel and Albert "Red" Fishel; and two sisters, Julia Hodson and Geneva Rawlins. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville with Dr. Mark Poindexter officiating.2 |

He was a resident of Martinsville. Tommy was born August 27, 1932 in Martinsville, Morgan County to Hobart and Fern (Daggy) Curtis. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He served a four year term, during in the Korean War. Upon his return to Indiana, he began working at Allison Engineering. He retired after 41 years of service. He married Dorothy A. Durbin Curtis on Dec. 10, 1982; they were married for 32 years.
In his retirement, he spent his best years being grandpa and great-grandpa. He loved going to auctions and spending time his grandchildren. Tommy was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars #1257 in Martinsville, American Legion Post #230 and the U.A.W. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Curtis of Martinsville, four children, Traci (Wade) Martin and Michael Lyle both of Martinsville, William (Jamie) Lyle of Morgantown and Christina Boston of Tennessee, two sisters, Eileen (Jack) Bright of Virginia and Margaret (Andy) Anderson of Martinsville, sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and his best friend and nephew, Michael Duncan. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gary Curtis, brother, Freddy Curtis and sister, Emma Ruth Roembke. A visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday March 8, 2015 at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel, 197 E. Jefferson St. An entombment service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday March 9, 2015 at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville.2 |
