ObitJoseph Wheeler's obituary was published in the The Evening Star on 11 June 1938:

Policeman Caw Succumbs at 39. Identification Expert Had Helped in Solving Big Cases in Capital.
Policeman Joseph W. Caw, 39, identification expert, attached to headquarters, whose skill was credited with solving a number of important cases, died last night at George Washington Hospital following an operation for appendicitis. The officer became ill about a week ago. When he failed to rally after the operation a blood transfusion was decided upon. Policeman J.D. Martin of the clothing squad gave his blood for the transfusion.
Mr. Caw joined the force in 1921, and the following year was appointed as a driver for the superintendent of police. Mr. Went to the Identification Bureau at headquarters in 1933. Inspector Bernard W. Thompson, chief of detectives, said Mr. Caw was an untiring worker with a wide knowledge of identification methods. He lived at 163 Uhland Terrace N.E.
Mr. Caw is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Rose Caw; four children, Betty, 16; Gladys, 10; Rosemary, 8; and Joseph Jr., 4; and two sisters, Miss Gladys Caw and Mrs. Pauline Van Fossen, both of Washington. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the residence, with Rev. R.H. Stone officiating, and interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.7

Funeral from her late residence, 3802 Eleventh street northwest, on Tuesday, October 27, at 8:30 a.m., thence to Sacred Heart Church where requier high mass will be said at 9 a.m. for the repose of her soul. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery.5
