Leonard S. Cain, 89, retired laborer and farmer, died Wednesday, November 3, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.D. Merchant, near Stotlers Cross Roads. He was born in Morgan county, a son of the late Samuel Cain and Susan Catherine Cull [Caw] Cain. Surviving besides his daughter is a sister, Mrs. Grace Culp, Arlington, Va., and a brother, Samuel, of Berkeley Springs. Several grandchildren also survive. His wife died some years ago. The body is at the Park Funeral Home where it will remain until time for services at Highland E.U.B. Church on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. E.C. Bateman will officiate. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery.¹⁴

Mrs. Bessie May Merchant, wife of Will Merchant, died Monday evening in Morgan County War Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for three weeks. Born May 13, 1890 in Morgan county, she was a daughter of the late Lenwood [Leonard] and Laura Harden Cain, and was a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons-Willie and Roscoe, of Baltimore; five daughters-Mrs. Geneva Custer and Mrs. Louise Michael, of Martinsburg; Mrs. Mary McDonald and Mrs. Pauline Rankin, Baltimore; Mrs. Anna Marie McCumbee, Berkeley Springs; and 15 grandchildren. The body will remain at the Hunter Funeral Home until 1:30 p.m. today, Thursday, when it will be moved to Mt. Olivet Methodist Church for services at 2, conducted by the Rev. E.C. Day, of Staunton, Va., a former pastor and the Rev. C.G. Russell, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.²

Grace Shade Culp, 90, of 1506 E. Philadelphia St., died Thursday at York City Hospital. She was formerly of Berkeley Springs, W. Va. Born in Morgan County, W.VA., she was the daughter of Samuel Elsworth Cain and Susan Catherine Caw. Her husband, Harry Culp, preceded her in death in 1981. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Dick of Dallastown and Mrs. Ethellene Nolan of York; three son, Sam Shade of Berkeley Springs, Clarence Shade of Reading and Chester Shade of Fayetteville, Ark; one stepson, Hugh Culp of New Orleans, La; and 16 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one step grandchild.³
