ObitPeter Staley's obituary was published in the Unknown Newspaper on circa 1 November 1913:
Peter S. Curtis, a well-known and respected citizen, was born in the vicinity of Little Point, Morgan County, Indiana, December 12th, 1837. All his life was spent in the community of his birth. He departed this life October 29th, 1913, being 75 years, ten months and seventeen days old. “Uncle Pete,” as he was familiarly known, was the son of David and Tabitha Curtis and was the sixth child of a family of twelve. He united with the Christian church at Mt. Tabor in the year of 1860 and remained a faithful member until death. In 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Polly Ratliff. To this union was born fourteen children, eight of whom survive, which are Aaron, Ashley, Peter, Johnnie, Tabithia, Archie, Isaac and Emma.
The deceased was a person of robust health and was always engaged in active work. An abscess was the immediate cause of his death and it was a great comfort to the family that his mind remained clear during his last sickness and he fully realized his condition and recognized his relatives and friends up to the last moment of his life. The funeral services were held at the home at 10:30 Friday October 31st. by Mr. Nixon of Cloverdale. The burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. [about 1 November 1913]
The will of Peter S. Curtis, Sr., who died Wednesday of last week at his home near Little Point, has been filed for probate and Judge J.W. Williams has been appointed executor in accordance with provisions of the will. The estate is estimated to be worth about $75,000. The will provided that all just debts and the funeral expenses of the deceased be paid, and then to his granddaughter, Rosa Warren, he gave $100.
To his sons, Isaac R. Curtis and George O. Curtis and to his daughter Erma Holmes, he gave $1.00 each and expressed his desire that they receive no more from his estate. To his son, Peter S. Curtis, Jr., he gave $50 and said that it was his desire that he receive no more. All the remainder of his personal property of every kind he gave to his four children, John D. Curtis, Aaron M. Curtis, Adam A. Curtis and Tabitha Wheeler, share and share alike.
Some years ago domestic troubles caused Mrs. Curtis to institute divorce proceedings and when the divorce was granted, she was awarded liberal alimony. Some of the children favored her and some stood by their father. At her death she gave her property to the children who took her side of the matter, and the will of Mrs. Curtis indicates that he did the same thing.
The deceased was one of the largest taxpayers in Adams township. Judge Williams, the executor, gave bond in the sum of $30,000, with the Martinsville Trust Company as surety. The will was executed September 24th of this year. The subscribing witnesses were Marion S. McCormick and George W. Curtis. [4 November 1913]12
