Survivors other than his mother of Burlington include a daughter, Miss Meredith Leigh Curtis of Burlington; a son, Mr. Michael David Curtis of Burlington; a sister, Mrs. Catherine “Happy” Kerns of Burlington; and a brother, Mr. George David Curtis of Saxapahaw. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church of Burlington by Dr. Charles Williams, pastor, and the Rev. Genie Martin, associate pastor. The family will be in the Session Room of First Presbyterian Church from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, and at other times at the home of his mother at 3213 Whitesell Road, Burlington.1 |

She worked as a registered nurse at the former Alamance General and Alamance Memorial hospitals, for Dr. George Gaddy and for UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. She served in the U.S. Cadet Nurses Corp. from 1945 until 1948. She was a member of Brookwood Baptist Church, a member of the Gleaners Sunday school class, the WMU, the Christian Womens Fellowship and a former Sunday school teacher. Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Susan Curtis of Burlington; two sons, Mr. James Van “Jim” Curtis of Burlington and Mr. Steven Brooks Curtis of Alliance; a brother, Mr. Lawrence Clapp of Jacksonville, Fla; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Harvey Clapp, Mr. Clarence Clapp and Mr. Otis Clapp. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Brookwood Baptist Church by the Rev. Garry Gates, the Rev. Mark Stewart, the Rev. Barry Lane and the Rev. David Gordon. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery.1 |
