(Witness) Bio | Nathan Kinnaman, farmer, was born in Cass County, Indiana June 4, 1838. He was reared at home in Washington Township, and received his education in the neighborhood schools. At the age of twenty-six he was united in marriage with Miss Bettie Wagner, daughter of John and Jane Wagner, natives of Pennsylvania and of German descent. Seven children were born to this union, all of whom are living: Andrew J., Thomas A., Willis C., Addie E. Ida J., Carrie E. and Jessie. November 29, 1873 Mr. Kinnaman lost his first wife by death, and February 24, 1875, he was married to Sarah E. Staley, daughter of George and Adaline (Bray) Staley. She is a native of Indiana, born March 3, 1842. the occupation of Mr. Kinnaman has always been farming, and in that pursuit has been successful, owning at the present time 133 acres of good, tillable land, and living comfortably and happy. He and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and he is a Republican in politics.10 |

The couple left for Chicago at 2 p.m. and after an absence of ten days, will return to Logansport, where they will go to housekeeping. Mr. Kinneman engaging in business here. Obit | John Godfrey's obituary was published in the Goodland Herald on 31 January 1936: Dr. John Godfrey Kinneman, 67, for many years a prominent physician of Goodland, died Thursday morning, January 23, at 12:45 o'clock at the family home on North Newton street, after an illness of several months duration. A son of William Bennett and Lucy Ann (Short) Kinneman, he was born October 20, 1868 near Logansport. He attended the public school in Adams township, afterwhich he attended Normal College at Marion and Central Normal College at Danville. He taught school for nine years, and in 1893 entered the Indiana Medical School where he was graduated in March, 1898. Immediately after graduation Dr. Kinneman came to Goodland and opened an office. He retired from active several months ago when his health failed. Dr. Kinneman was a member of the Tri-County Medical association. On September 16, 1896 he was married to Neva Moore, who survives with a son, John Kinneman, Jr., who is employed in the Union National bank at Pittsburgh, Pa., and a daughter, Miss Doris Bob Kinneman, a member of the faculty at Kent College, Kent, Ohio, also a sister, Mrs. S.J. Wagoner, of Mishawaka, and two granddaughters. Two brothers preceded him in death. The body was viewed at the Hufty-Crane funeral home Friday afternoon from 2 to 4 with the Goodland business firms closed at that time. Saturday morning the body was taken to Indianapolis for cremation at 10:30 o'clock at the Flanner-Buchanan funeral home. CARD OF THANKS. For the innumerable acts of kindness rendered to us during the illness and death of Dr. Kinneman. We want to offer our heartfelt thanks. Kinneman, 59 years old, a leading dentist in this city for many years, committed suicide this morning by hanging himself in the basement of his home. Because of ill health, Dr. Kinneman retired from the practice of dentistry last November. He had been engaged in practice thirty-two years. He practiced for on year in Indianapolis and came to Martinsville in 1897. He is survived by the widow, one daughter, Mary; two sons, Paul and Robert; one sister, Mrs. Blanche Wagner of North Liberty, Ind., and two brothers, Dr. John G. Kinneman of Goodland and Charles Kinneman of Logansport. He was a member of the Christian Church, the Masonic lodge and the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Wilhite funeral home, conducted by the Rev. P.H. Canary, pastor of the Christian Church. The Masonic lodge will be in charge of the burial service.10 |

Kinnaman, 84, of 336 Montgomery Street, passed away at 2:30 o’clock Thursday morning at the Memorial Hospital following an illness of four months. Born in Cass County on December 7, 1863, she was the daughter of Alexander and Arminto Cox Reed. She was a member of the United Brethern Church. Her husband, the late Charles E. Kinnaman, preceded her in death on November 29, 1930. A daughter, Edna, also preceded her in death. Surviving her are two daughters, Miss Frankie Kinnaman, retired local school teacher, and Mrs. Glenn Leffel, of Connersville; and two grandchildren. The body will remain at the Chase Miller Funeral Home where friends may call.4 |

A former Logansport schoolteacher for 30 years, she retired in 1945. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Fidelity Chapter, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Emera Club, the Cass County Garden Club, the ESO and the Retired Teachers Association. The Rev. Michael LeSaux will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Fisher Funeral Chapel, where OES services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.7 |

Church officiating and burial will be made in the Mexico Cemetery. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mary Kinneman, and two sisters, Miss Frankie Kinneman, a teacher in Lincoln Junior High School, and Mrs. J.F. Leffel of Connersville, Ind.7 |

(Witness) Bio | John Sherman Leffel, physician and surgeon, is one of the talented members of his profession at Connersville, where he has practiced continuously since graduating from medical college except for a few months during the World war when he was with the colors. Doctor Leffel was born in Cass County, Indiana, in 1889, son of John C. and Dora M. (Ferguson) Leffel, who were prominent and successful farming people of Cass County. His grandfather, John Leffel, came to Cass County from Preble County, Ohio, where he was born. The maternal grandparents were Richard and Ellen (Miller) Ferguson, the former a native of Kentucky and the latter of Union County, Indiana. John Sherman Leffel attended public schools in Cass County, and one step of his educational progress was made at the Marion Normal College. In 1915 he was graduated Bachelor of Science from the University of Indiana and in 1917 received his M. D. degree from the state university. On locating at Connersville he was for several years a partner of Dr. J. R. Mountain, now deceased. Since 1924 he has cared for a large volume of private practice, with offices at 117 East Sixth Street. Doctor Leffel married in September, 1912, Miss Glenn Kinneman, who was born in Cass County, daughter of Charles and Mary E. (Reed) Kinneman, natives of the same county. Doctor and Mrs. Leffel have two children, Mary E., who was born at Bloomington, Indiana, in August, 1913, while her father was a student at the University of Indiana, and Bettie L., born in August, 1917. The family is members of the United Brethren Church. Doctor Leffel has served as secretary of the Connersville board of Health. He is a Republican, a Knight Templar Mason, member of the B. P. 0. Elks, Kiwanis Club, Country Club and American Legion. In October, 1918, be answered the call to the colors and was with the Army Medical Corps at Camp Greenleaf, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, until honorably discharged December 23, 1918. Doctor Leffel is a member of the Fayette County, Sixth District, Indiana State and American Medical Associations. |
