He had been in ill health for some time but on the day of his death he was able to walk out in the yard and superintend some work that was being done. Returning to the house he sat down in a rocking chair and in a few minutes was a corpse. Apoplexy is supposed to be the cause of his sudden taking off. [John V. Obit | Mary's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 25 October 1935: Mrs. Mary [EWING] CALENTINE, aged 84, died at 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida SCHINDLER, who resides on R.R. 1, southeast of the city. Death was due to complications and followed an illness dating from Labor Day. The deceased was born in Union county, Indiana on June 29, 1851. Her parents were John and Amanda (COREY) EWING. Mrs. Calentine has lived in Rochester township practically her entire lifetime, except for 20 years when she rsided in South Bend. The deceased was married to Samuel CALENTINE in November, 1872, in a ceremony which was performed at Denver. Her husband preceded her in death. Mrs. Calentine was a member of the Church of God. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. SCHINDLER and Mrs. Jessie ABEEL, South Bend; two sons, John CALENTINE, South Bend and Frank CALENTINE of this city; a brother, William EWING, Rochester, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A foster daughter, Mrs. Belle SAVAGE preceded her mother in death. The funeral services will be held from the Church of God at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Daniel SLAYBAUGH of Akron in charge. Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows cemetery.6 |

Obit | Sarah's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 4 June 1930: Mrs. Sarah LYNCH, well known resident of this city for the past number of years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claude ROUCH, 417 West 5th street at 9 o’clock Wednesday morning. Death resulted from a complication of diseases which followed a stroke of paralysis which was suffered almost a year ago. Mrs. Lynch, who was 76 years, four months and 13 days of age, was born in Union county, Indiana, on Jan. 30, 1854, and on December 11th, 1880 was united in marriage to D. W. LYNCH at Denver, Indiana. Her husband preceded her in death 32 years ago. The deceased was a member of the Church of God having united in that faith a number of years ago. The following relatives survive: six children, Mrs. Claude ROUCH, of this city, J. E. LYNCH of Silver Lake, Ind., Mrs. Chas. PARREN, John A. LYNCH, William D. LYNCH, all of South Bend; and Mrs. F. C. PARVIN, of Hot Springs, Ark., twenty grandchildren, a brother, W. C. EWING, of this city, and a sister, Mary CALENTINE, also of Rochester. A daughter, Almeda Corline [LYNCH] preceded her mother in death in infancy. The exact time of the funeral services has not as yet been set, however the ceremony will be held at the Silver Creek Bethel church, east of Akron. Complete details will be published in tomorrow’s issue of the News-Sentinel.

NYE, 80, retired farmer, committed suicide by hanging about 10:10 a.m. today at his farm residence four miles southwest of Akron. The body was found in the tool shed approximately ten minutes later by an unidentified person. Dr. Dean STINSON, coroner, investigated. This is the third suicide in Fulton county in less than two weeks. Mrs. Evert ROCKHILL took her own life Aug. 14, and Omer CONGER committed suicide Aug.20. Born July 1, 1869, in Fulton county, Mr. Nye had lived his entire life in the Akron community. The son of Jonas and Elizabeth (SAMPLE) NYE, he was married to Ida ALSPAUGH Nov. 17, 1887. A member of the Gleaners lodge, he is survived by the wife; a son, Clifford [NYE], Detroit; a daughter, Mrs. Carmen SPENCER, Indianapolis; thirteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Five daughters and two sons preceded him in death. The body was taken to the Moyer-Haupert funeral home in Akron. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.3 |

Two sons, Robert and Junior [Van LUE] preceded in death. Services are tentatively set for Saturday at the Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester. Her death, which was announced in Thursday’s News-Sentinel, occurred Wednesday evening at the Bluffton clinic, where she had been a patient. She had been ill several weeks. She was a member of the Akron Church of God. Surviving are the husband; two daughters, Mrs. Trella TOMBAUGH of Mentone, and Mrs. Lorene SWICK at home; parents; one grandson; one brother, Clifford NYE with the armed forces in India; and two sisters, Mrs. Voris DAVIS of Akron and Mrs. Carmen SPENCER of Indianapolis. The body was removed this morning from the Moyer funeral home to the residence, four miles northwest of Akron, where friends may call.3 |

Mr. Nye had been on the island since the first of May and his wife, who has been living at the home of her parents in Whiting was planning to go there within a few weeks. The deceased was born on November second, 1899, on a farm four miles southwest of Akron the son of Gilbert and Ida NYE. Three years ago he was married to Miss Helen BROCK, of Whiting. Mr. Nye had been in the employ of the Standard Oil Company for several years, working in Whiting before he was sent to South America. Surviving are his wife, two-year-old son Allen Robert [NYE], his parents, one brother, Clifford NYE, of Akron; five sisters, Mrs. Oliver BURNS, Mrs. Voris DAVIS and Mrs. Arthur KUHN, of near Akron; Mrs. Jack BONER, of Detroit, Mich., and Miss Carmen NYE, of Indianapolis. The body is being sent to Akron for burial but no funeral arrangements have been made, due to the fact that it will take from ten days to two weeks before it will arrive. Saturday, September 21, 1929 Robert C. NYE, 29, of Akron who died Thursday in South America where he was employed by the Standard Oil company, was a World War veteran and saw active service overseas. He was a member of the American Legion Post at Akron.2 |
