She was born Dec. 11, 1909 in South Bend to Tony M. and Tina O. JONES SISSEL. She moved to Michigan in 1987. Prior to that, she had lived in Spooner, Wis., and the Athens community. On Dec. 31, 1928 in Peoria, Ill., she married Raymond BURKETT, who died Jan. 5, 1987. She was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Tad (Patricia) HENDERSON, Spencerville, and Juanita KUHN, Logansport; a son, Robert [BURKETT], Eau Claire; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Glen (Murtle) KUENKLE, Little Cedar, Iowa, and Loretta OELS, Parlin, N.J., and two brothers, Mahlon [SISSEL], Mesa, Ariz., and Rollo [SISSEL], Austin, Minn. Preceding in death was a sister, Eileen GUENTHER.2 |

The deceased was born in Wyandotte County, Ohio on June 22, 1850, the son of Jonas and Leah H. (SWARTZLANDER) NYE and moved with his parents to Fulton County when a small child. Upon reachng manhood he was married to Ellen CLEVENGER. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Reilly [NYE], of Mchigan City, and Chester [NYE] of Athens; two brothers, Grant [NYE] of South Bend, Schuyler [NYE], of Marion, one half-brother, Gilbert NYE, near Akron, and one sister, Mrs. Alfretta KINDIG, of Akron. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock at the Church of God in Athens. Rev. SLAYBAUGH will be in charge and will be assisted by Rev. C. H. MINOR. Burial will be made in the Mt. Hope cemetery at Athens.3 |

Survivors are two sons, Lawrence Rella NYE, of Chicago, Ill., Arthur NYE, of Mishawaka, a foster daughter, Gertrude JOHNSON UTTER, wife of Harley UTTER; six grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Church of God in Akron with Rev. Daniel L. SLAYBAUGH officiating. Burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.7 |

Mrs. Nye was born in Defiance county, Ohio, Mar. 30, 1861, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John SANDERS. Funeral Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Hope church. Burial at Mount Hope cemetery.4 |

Mr. Nye had spent practically all of his life in this vicinity but had lived in Peru for the past few months where he was employed as a caretaker of a park. Surviving are three sons, O. E. NYE, of Rochester, Champ [NYE], of Lapaz and Joe [NYE], of Boston. The body of the deceased was brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Nye, northeast of Rochester, Monday afternoon. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Tuesday, October 16, 1928 Funeral services for Esly NYE who died Sunday night in Peru, will be held Wednesday afternoon at one o’clock at the Mt. Hope Church in Athens. Rev. R. H. CROWDER will officiate and burial will be made in the Mt. Hope cemetery. She is survived by her husband; two children, Gail NYE and Mrs. Fred CRAVEN of South Bend and a sister, Mrs. Elbridge CARPENTER of Akron. The funeral services were held this afternoon from the Clay township Community church, near Roseland with Rev. Kidder STETSON, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was made in the Roseland Community cemetery.6 |

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from the Church of God in Akron with Rev. Daniel L. SLAYBAUGH officiating. Burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.2 |

KUHN, 74, R.R. 2, Akron, died at 6:10 p.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn hospital of a skull fracture suffered when he fell from the haymow to the floor of the barn at his farm. Sheriff Willard CLARK and Deputy Coroner Lyman BAKER said Mr. Kuhn had been putting bales of hay into the barn, using a tractor and pulley arrangement. The rope on the pulley apparently became entangled and Mr. Kuhn went up into the haymow. He lost his balance while trying to fix the rope and fell to the floor below. The accident apparently occurred about 2:30 p.m. A neighbor, Wallace “Doc” JOHNSON, discovered the man. He had stopped to investigate when he hear the tractor’s motor operating as he was driving by the farm. Born Oct. 15, 1892 in Fulton county, Mr. Kuhn had spent his lifetime in this county. He was married Aug. 6, 1949 at Akron to Lena SWICK, who survives. His parents were Henry A. and Ida PRSSNALL KUHN. He was a member of the Akron Church of God and the Fulton County Farm Bureau. Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Trella) TOMBAUGH, Mentone, and Mrs. Devon (Lorena) SWICK, Indianapolis; a grandson; two great-grandsons; a brother, Cecil L. KUHN, South Bend, and a sister, Mrs. Ethel McHATTON, Winchester. A brother preceded in death. Last rites will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Akron church of God with the Rev. Forest CARLSON officiating. Burial will be in the Akron cemetery. Friends may call at the Sheetz funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday and at the church for one hour before services.4 |

On January 1st, 1890 he was united in marriage to Rhoda J. SHEETS, the ceremony being pronounced at Leiters Ford. Early in childhood he was baptized as a Presbyterian and always retained that faith throughout his entire life.2 |
