The Rev. Dale Richman and Rev. Glenn Johnson officiated and burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home chapel. Mr. Curtis was born at Canton, Ky., January 16, 1893, the son of Alfred Lynn and Allie Belle Curtis. On July 25, 1918, in Caruthersville, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, receiving his discharge January 30, 1919 at Camp Funston, Kans. About twenty years ago he moved from Braggadocio to St. Louis, where he was employed at Missouri Baptist Hospital until retiring a few years ago. He was a member of Tower Grove Baptist Church of St. Louis, also of Pemiscot County American Legion Post 88. He leaves two brothers, Austin Curtis of Bragg City and John Curtis of St. Louis and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Skinner and Mrs. Mary DeBakey, both of Braggadocio.6 |

She was born in Canton, Kentucky on October 29, 1897 and died at the Dunklin County Memorial Hospital in Kennett, Missouri on May 6, 1972 at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 7 days. She was the daughter of the late Alford Lynn and Allie Bell Curtis and attended schools in Kentucky. In 1916 she moved with her parents from Kentucky to Pemiscot County. On April 3, 1916 in Blytheville, Arkansas she was united in marriage to Mr. Bert Skinner. He preceded her in death on February 26, 1966. She was a member of the Braggadocio Baptist Church. Mrs. Skinner is survived by two brothers-Austin Curtis of Bragg City, Missouri; and John Curtis of Union, Missouri, one sister-Mrs. Mary DeBakey of Braggadocio, Missouri. Pall-bearers were Joe Bob Coppage, Bob Dick Long, Charles Ed Darnell, L.E. Bingenheimer and Charles Albert Faris Jr. and Charles Gallahar. The H.S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements with interment in the Maple Cemetery.2 |

Obit | Austin's obituary was published in the Democrat Argus on 20 February 1986: Austin Curtis, 86, of Bragg City, died Friday at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 17, 1900 in Canton, Ky., he was the son of Alford Lynn and Allie Belle Skinner Curtis. He attended schools in Canton and moved to the Braggadocio area in 1917. He was a grocer before retiring in 1974 and served on the Bragg City City Council for many years. He was a member of the Hunter's Club and Bragg City Baptist Church. He donated a wagon to the Riverview Museum in Caruthersville. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith Curtis of Bragg City; Two sons, Gene Curtis of Lincoln, Neb., and Reid Curtis of Bragg City; One brother John Curtis of Clayton, Mo; One sister, Mrs. Mary DeBakey of Braggadocio; And two grandsons David J. Curtis of Denver and Stephen A. Curtis of Lincoln. Services were Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at H.S. Smith Funeral Home chapel in Caruthersville, the Rev. H.L. McClanahan officiating, with burial in Maple Cemetery. Pallbearers were Buster Kinder, Bill Gill, Bob Caudle, Lonnie Glass Ron Crafton and Ray Pritchard.5 |
