Obit | Joseph W.'s obituary was published in the Denver Tribune on 8 November 1928: Denver Tribune, Thursday, Nov. 8, 1928 (front page, top half, column 1): Civil War Veteran Expires. Joseph Warren, one of Denver’s oldest citizens, died at his home at eleven o’clock Monday evening after a linger illness from complication due to old age. Deceased was past ninety years of age, and a resident of Denver for over thirty years. He was born in Athens County, Ohio. When the Civil War began he enlisted as a volunteer, serving throughout the war with distinction and honor. He saw service in many of the major battles of the great conflict. Until age made it impossible for him to carry on, he was engaged in the shoe repair business. He is survived by a widow and one son, Eugene Warren, whose home is in the state of Washington. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday morning at 10:00 o’clock with Rev. C.F. Golden in charge and burial was in the Zion Cemetery at Wagoners Station. Rob’t S. Kline was the funeral director. Peru Tribune, Tuesday Nov. 6, 1928: Last Veteran in Denver Dies Joseph Warren, 90 years old, the last Civil War veteran in the town of Denver, died at 11 o'clock last night after an illness of four weeks with complications incident to advanced age. He is survived by his widow, Rebecca, and an adopted son, Eugene Warren, of Washington. Funeral services will be held from the late residence of the deceased Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will be in Zion cemetery near Wagoner's Station. The deceased was born in Ohio on July 30, 1838, and had lived at Denver for thirty years, having come there from Kansas. He was a retired shoemaker.10 |
