Levack; and great grandparents, Mrs. Julia Barker of Chesterton and Mr. and Mrs. H.V. DeWitt. Fancher was born Sept. 5, 1926 in Chesterton, the son of Oliver and Christabel (Drew) Fancher. On Sept. 7, 1946, in Chesterton, he married Betty Marquardt, who survives. He was self-employed 34 years as a mason contractor with Fancher, Slong and Pearman, Inc. He graduated from Chesterton High School in 1944 and was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a charter member of Chesterton Moose Lodge 1623 and a member of American Legion Post 170 and Bricklayers Union Local 6. Also surviving are a son, Richard Jr., of Chesterton, a daughter, Linda Levack of Chesterton; three brothers, Kenneth and Oliver Fancher and Alvin Slont of Chesterton; and a sister, Irene Steuber of Chesterton; and four grandchildren.4 |

(Lois) Fancher Jr., Chesterton; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and one brother, Alvin Slont Sr., Chesterton. He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Stueber, and two brothers, Kenneth and Richard. Mr. Fancher was a lifelong resident of Chesterton. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, where he was a tank commander. He was retired from National Tube, Gary, and was the former manager of Pioneer Lumber Co., Chesterton. He was a former building commissioner of Chesterton, and a member of St. John's United Church, Chesterton. He was a member, past master, former secretary and a trustee of Calumet Masonic Lodge 379 F & AM, Chesterton, a member of York Rite Scottish Valley of South Bend; Orak Shrine, Michigan City; and Knights Templar. He was past commander of Michigan City Commandry 30-KT KYCH and recipient of Knight York Cross of Honor, past excellent high priest of Chapter 25, past illustrious master of Michigan City Council 56, past eminent commander of Michigan City Commandry 30, Northwest Indiana York Rite College 73, Hammond. He was a member of J. Herbert Nichols Priory 76, Merrillville, KYCH, and a member of Indiana Priory 8, KYCH, Fort Wayne, and a member of past masters unit of Orak Temple.3 |
