Obit | William Henry's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 6 November 1945: William Henry CARROTHERS, retired farmer, passed away Monday evening five o’clock at his home in Akron. Death resulted from complications following an illness of over two years. He had been a resident of Akron for the past 12 years moving there from Miami county, Ind. Mr. Carrothers was born June 2nd., 1897 in Butler township, Miami county, Ind. His first marriage was to Viola BIGGS on Feb. 16th, 1893 who preceded in death on October 24th, 1923. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Rosa CLEMANS on December 10th, 1924. His parents were George and Harriet CARROTHERS. Mr. Carrothers was a member of the Akron Methodist church and was on the board of stewards of the church. Survivors include his wife; one son, Victor CARROTHERS, of Gilead; one son and one daughter deceased; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Final rites will be held Thursday afternoon, 2 o’clock, at the Akron Methodist church. Rev. R. A. FENSTERMACHER and Rev. Fred VINCENT will officiate. Interment will be made in the Ebenezer cemetery, southwest of Gilead. The body will be removed from the Moyer funeral home to the Carrothers home Wednesday afternoon where friends may call to pay their respects.10 |

Obit | Carl's obituary was published in the Rochester Sentinel on 9 August 1938: Warsaw, Aug. 9. -- Carl CARROTHERS, 39, a farmer, was instantly killed about 3 o’clock Monday afternoon when he was struck by lightning on the Harry VANDERMARK farm, five miles northwest of here. Jess PFEIFFER, also a farmer, was knocked unconscious by the bolt. He was taken to his home after being revived. The men were helping with the threshing at the Vandermark farm. They were out in a field loading, with Carrothers standing on the wagon and Pfeiffer tossing up the shocks. The victim was born near Macy, but for seven years he had made his home near Warsaw. His is survived by his widow, Rhoda [CARROTHERS], and seven children, Lennis [CARROTHERS], Laura [CARROTHERS], Mary [CARROTHERS], Gayle [CARROTHERS], Billy [CARROTHERS], Thelma [CARROTHERS] and June Ellen [CARROTHERS], the oldest of whom is 15, the father, William CARROTHERS, his step-mother, and a brother, Victor CARROTHERS, all of Macy. The body was removed to the Bibler funeral home here after Dr. Leslie LAIRD of North Webster, Kosciusko county coroner, had conducted an investigation. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.3 |

He had been in ill health for a year. Mr. Carrothers had resided in the vicinity of Macy for 24 years, coming there from South Bend. He was born Oct. 4, 1901, in Perry township, Miami county to Henry and Viola (BIGGS) CARROTHERS. On Nov. 19, 1925, at St. Joseph, Mich., he was married to Ethel HALTERMAN. Mr. Carrothers, a farmer, was a member of the Ebenezer Methodist church of near Denver. Survivors are his wife, at home; five sons, Robert E. [CARROTHERS] of South Bend; Willis D. [CARROTHES], at home; Elic L. [CARROTHERS], Peru; James L. [CARROTHERS], Roann, and Luther P. [CARROTHERS], Disko; his stepmother, Mrs. Rose CARROTHERS, Akron; six grandchildren and six nieces and a nephew. Funeral services in charge of the Rev. Walter CROSBY, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ebenezer Methodist church and burial will be in an adjacent cemetery. Friends may call at the Carothers home after 3 p.m. Thursday. The body will lie in state at the church an hour prior to the services.2 |

Mrs. Brown was born Aug. 13, 1901 in Miami county to J. R. and Mary McMILLEN BACON. She had lived most of her life in Kosciusko county. She was married in 1921 to Carl CARROTHERS, who died in 1938. She married Ralph BROWN on July 3, 1948. He died Oct. 18, 1978. She was a member of the Packerton United Methodist church, the Columbia City Independent Brethren church, Mothers of World War II of Sidney, Ind., charter member of the Monroe Hilltoppers Home Ec club, and was the first recipient of the Mothers of World War II Mother of the Year award. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Lennis) WISE, Warsaw; Mrs. Bill (Mary) WHISLER, Syracuse; Mrs. Phil (Gayle) HURST, Macy; Mrs. Richard (Thelma) RING, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Bob (June) KRAMER, Rochester; and Mrs. Laura HATHAWAY, Walkerton; a son Bill CARROTHERS, Austin, Texas; a step-daughter, Mrs. Willodean LEITER, Claypool; a step-son, William BROWN, Warsaw; thirty-one grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Chloie) STANLEY, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Charles (Mary) HILL, Peru. The parents, two brothers, a daughter, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded in death. Services wil be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Wyman funeral home, Pierceton, with the Rev. James LINTON and Fred ORR officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer cemetery, Macy. The Mothers of World War II will conduct memorial services at 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Friends may call today from 2-9 p.m. and Tuesday until the hour of service.4 |
