Walter was born on the family farm in Creek County, Okla., on Feb. 3, 1918, the son of Homer H. Head and Levisa Ellen Tucker Head. He married Ethelene Curtis on May 29, 1937, in Bristow, Okla. Walter was baptized in Midland on July 16, 1950. He was a World War II veteran serving with the Army Engineering Corps. He built liberty ships in San Pedro, Calif., before joining the Army. Mr. Head was always active in the Spanish Missions and was a longtime deacon and elder for Churches of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, John William Head in 1946 and Walter Young Head Jr. in 2003.
Survivors: Wife of 69 years, Ethelene Curtis Head of Fort Worth; daughter, Sharon Head Gammon and husband, James, of Clovis, N.M; son, Timothy Lawrence Head and wife, Bobbe, of Van Horn; daughters-in-law, Doris Matetzschk Head of Arlington and Trudie Smith Head of Cleburne; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members. Left to cherish her memory are her children Diane and husband Dennis Warlick, Joyce Lynch, Jerry and wife Diane Lynch, Danny and wife Susan Lynch all of Forest City; grandchildren TracyLynch, Bruce and wife Melanie Lynch, Anthony Lynch, Brandy Mitchem, Jef frey and wife Amanda Heusinkveld, Holly Lynch and Kendall Lynch; eight greatgrandchildren; siblings Betty Brooks, Ray Curtis and Edgar Curtis.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Florence Baptist Church with the Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating. Burial will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crowe's Funeral Home.5 |

Head of Bostic; two sisters, Mozelle Lynch of Forest City, and Betty Brooks of Ellenboro; two brothers, Ray Curtis of Forest City, and Edgar Curtis of Ellenboro; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Harmon Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Hedgpath and Allen Hall officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Campfield Baptist Church cemetery in Ellenboro. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, P.O. Box 336, Forest City, NC 28043. Westmoreland Funeral Home, Marion, has charge of arrangements.5 |
